Promises to Saint Lorenzo Tie Northern New Mexico Traditions
The article recounts promesas vows made by soldiers from Northern New Mexico to saints during the Philippine Islands era. It links Saint Lawrence to local rites, Pueblo rebellion history, and Bernalillo Matachines dancing, noting long standing rituals and the August midmeal devotion rooted in San Lorenzo’s legend. It ends with a philosophical prompt about the Resurrection of the Body.

Living Center in Taos marks sixth year amid nurse shortage relief
Taos Living Center administrator John Conway says the facility is stronger after a near-closure scare caused by a nursing shortfall. It downsized in spring, sent some patients to Espajo la, then welcomed back most as staffing improved. The center opened June 26, 1996, and celebrates its sixth anniversary with efforts to boost nursing staff through training programs and certifications. Six students finished a CNA training course, with the next class starting August 12 as plans target at least 20 participants.
