Fernandez, newly hired Tass building inspector, passed the state exam on his first attempt after testing July 29. Since June 16 he has processed about 20 building permits for new homes and renovations. The town gains full permit-fee benefit with its own inspector under a joint powers agreement with the state Construction Industries Division.
Fuelwood permits for green pine and juniper open Saturday at four Carson National Forest districts. Prices are 1.60 per cord. sales are first come first served. District totals include Tres Piedras 675, Rito 2925, Canjilon 200, Jicarilla 8637 cords with varying per permit limits. Removal must occur within two weeks and Load Removal Permits must be filled. Atehite Gallegos, longtime Taos Gas Company manager since March 1973, is reassigned to lead the Espanola district. He starts a transition week August 10 and takes charge August 17, replacing Pat Lopez who moves to Santa Fe.
