Gas pipeline break cuts New Mexico service to 5800 customers

Gas Company of New Mexico reports a pipeline break near the Rio Grande confluence at San Juan Pueblo affecting about 5800 customers in Taos Questa and Red River. About 700 customers in the Spariola area lost service around 3:30 a.m. The exact cause was not known. Gas service to 50 hotels was also affected.

Taos County faces budget gap and lingering loans

County manager Samuel Montoya told commissioners the upcoming fiscal year will end with $86,000 less in the general fund. He said the county is at the bottom of the curve and cash reserves should begin climbing after addressing past debts. Remaining long-term loans from a state revaluation project total about $362,884 with December payments due, but funds are not available until June.

Killer sentenced after emotional testimony in Taos case

Cory Richardson, 26, received the maximum six year sentence for two counts of vehicular homicide in the 1992 crash that killed Chris Romero and Amos Concha, both 19, in Taos. The judge suspended two years, contingent on two years in a treatment program, with credit for time served.
