George Michael Martinez of Penasco died in a 1982 Arizona Magma Copper Mine cave-in while aiding a fellow miner. He is posthumously awarded the Carnegie Heroism Medal with a $2,500 prize. daughter Deb bie accepts on Friday per grandmother. Martinez served in Vietnam, worked as a miner 12.5 years, and is buried in Santa Fe National Cemetery. Memorial Day ceremony hoped at Vietnam Veterans Chapel near Eagle Nest.
