David Cordoba, a relative of the Tony Conlohis, is visiting Tangy Beach on leave from the US Navy. He is stationed aboard the USS Ban Hon me Richard.
The final session of a rabies clinic will run Saturday at the Taos Animal Shelter from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with a lunch break. Rabies shots for dogs are offered again at $2, half the usual $4 price, according to a report.
Mr and Mrs Bill Vickers will host a public opening for a Montgomery Ward catalogue store from Thursday through Saturday. The Vickers, as contract agents for the store, operative with Sierra Sporting Goods. Free coffee and doughnuts will be served.
A reader criticizes Mr. Mitchell and Governor Burroughs, alleging past highway spending from 1955 to 1960 and favoring Northern New Mexico candidates. The letter accuses Burroughs’ administration of road work benefits, questions claims of expertise, and urges Taos County voters to embrace Democratic politics and local progress.
CAP plaza restoration and a new dump ground are proposed with donated land. Rivera cites land improvments from Chamisal and other communities, noting St. Francis Mission at Ranchos de Taos as a potential project. Fire danger rises in the south and central regions as dry windy weather persists. U S Forest Service official William Hurst cites 1965 data showing 605 fires on New Mexico National Forests burning 6 197 acres with 67 man caused. Across the Southwestern Region 1 739 fires occurred in 1965 on 12 National Forests and Panhandle National Grasslands.
The primary slate shows Democratic incumbents and Republican rivals for U S Representative Governor and other state posts. Candidates include Morris Cook Walker Davidson Burroughs Hawley Cargo Chav ez Jr Jones Evans Bundy Sanchez Anderson Witt Donnel Hays Steidley Ferguson Cox Cross Murphy Carmody with no Republican challengers for several offices.
Police report a rear-end collision on State Road 3 near Talpa at about 6 40 p m Saturday. Effie Romero stopped to turn left when Stella Casias driving the second car struck her vehicle. Passengers from both cars were treated at Holy Cross Hospital and released. Casias faced charges of careless driving.
Taos Pueblo Governor John J. Reyna and council officials are listed on the program of the Association on American Indian Affairs annual meeting on May 2 in New York City. The event will be in the Metropolitan Museum of Art junior auditorium and includes Severino Martinez the council spokesman Paul J. Bernal the council interpreter and Governor Reyna plus Alden Stevens president of the association and Stewart L. Udall secretary of the Interior.
