Doug Smith a former Holy Cross Hospital radiologist and Taos Inn co owner with Carolyn Haddock died April 8 at age 75. He focused on life loves from X ray work to Taos Center for the Arts photography travel and service. Friends recall his leadership reviving the Taos Center for the Arts after financial trouble and his passion for mushrooms mountains and people. The family invites visitors to a Taos Inn library community altar and asks donations to the TCA Endowment Fund.

Annual veterans picnic set April 18
The Disabled American Veterans Chapter 12 Taos hosts its annual picnic on Saturday April 18 at the Taos National Guard Armory from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Lujan will attend 9:30 to 11 a.m. Guest speakers, veteran representatives, and benefit assistance will be available, with IDs if needed and a barbecue for attendees. Red River businesswoman Kathi Arnold dies at 53
Kathi Denson Arnold a Red River businesswoman and community volunteer died at home Monday April 13 at age 53 after a cancer battle. She and husband Dirk opened The Candy Crate and in 2007 bought the Red River Inn and Shops from her mother Alyce Denson. Arnold helped Red River Historical Society The Friends Of The Library and founded The Mountain Institute with her brother Jerry in 1988 becoming its sole director in 2004. She was a massage therapist and leaves son Dylan Bateau daughter Amber Rama Sibley and grandchildren Aidan Ryder along with her mother brother sister and extended family. Memorial service is Saturday April 18 at 10 a.m. at the Red River Conference Center. Donations to The Mountain Institute Fundraising Account at People's Bank.
