Gorge bridge-jumper John Walter convicted in federal court

John Walter was convicted in federal court for creating a hazard and a public nuisance after leaping from the Gorge bridge on January 10. He parachuted into the river and was rescued the next day by Taos County Search and Rescue with military support. Walter was fined 250 dollars and ordered to perform 32 hours of community service, to be used for a fundraiser for Taos Volunteer Fire Department and local search and rescue groups. He also faces state charges of creating a public nuisance.

Pueblo to reopen Taos Pueblo for visitors Sunday

Taos Pueblo plans a Sunday reopening after more than a month of winter quiet time. The tourism office says visitors are welcome as the Pueblo resumes standard access and policies set earlier this year.

Taos board selects Aragon as new district superintendent

After five years in Questa, Juan A. Aragon will become Taos superintendent effective July 1. Aragon, with 24 Taos years, won the post over Patricia Bubenk and Linda Pitt Martinez after April 10 interviews. He begins Taos career in 1961 as a math teacher and urged district control at a public forum.
