Taos Tigers aim to sweep as they host the Taos Relays at Parr Field with seven state teams attending. Taos athletes scored 55 points in Colorado scoring and 7% in New Mexico scoring, led by Mike Wiley in the 120 yard hurdles and 440 winner LeRoy Trujillo. Relays begin 10 am with pole vault discus and javelin, ending around 2 pm. trophies awarded for top finishers. Baseball notes show mixed results as Taos seeks improvement, while Central Catholic High opens season with loss to El Rite. Pueblo Motors won team division in open bowling handicap tournament with McKinney, Pipe taking ragtime doubles and Ernest Martinez top singles.
The Taos Pueblo Community Action Program will run summer programs using part of a large grant awarded to northern pueblos by the Office of Economic Opportunity. The effort includes adult education, remedial education, and community development for Pojoaque Nambe Picuris San Ildefonso San Juan Santa Clara Tesuque and Taos. Senator Joseph M. Montoya announced the grant.
The women of the Ranchos Presbyterian Church will serve a Spanish supper tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 at the church. Admission is 1.50 for adults, 1 for students with at least one parent, and 75 cents for children under 10.
Taos officials report efforts to seal well casings to prevent contamination and fix a rusted pump strainer. Officials note overflow cleaning, a shared underground water source issue between No 1 and No 2 wells, and plans to stay at current levels to avoid harming either well. Cargo arrives with state and federal officials to assess the situation.

Mrs Ruth Sandusky returned after a ten day visit with her niece Mrs William Crawford and the Crawford children at Scottsdale Arizona.
The Taos Craftsmen Co op will hold a general membership meeting at 7 30 tonight in the Farmers Home Administration Office Himes Building. The meeting open to new craftsmen and the public aims to plan summer furniture production and expand the organization s membership while reviewing past activities and establishing guidelines for marketing Spanish colonial furniture.
San Luis Valley Race Meet set for July 28 to 30 at Kit Carson Arena Alamosa Colorado features the $1000 San Luis Valley Futurity open to all registered breeds foaled in 1965 and a San Luis Valley Derby for foals from 1964 distance 400 yards. A Llano Quemado woman Joy Webster was cited last Thursday for driving without a license after a small bus overturned on South Santa Fe Road at about 11 15 p m. She escaped injury. In Taos County 11 persons were fined last week for misdemeanors including public drunkenness and disturbing the peace or drunk and disorderly conduct with amounts ranging from 10 to 20 dollars and sentences of up to 15 days in jail for some.
PENASCO The Penasco Area Development Association has begun work on plans for the second part of an application for funds to construct a livestock marketing facility here. Part T was approved recently, and the board of directors selected a construction plan to be developed by area residents with assistance from the County Extension Service.
The council pressed for swift action to fix the water problem and repair the town image affecting tourism. Acting mayor J B Martinez ordered welding on the 200000 gallon storage tank as Filemon Sanchez was hospitalized. The council then voted the next tax rate by resolution amid a private meeting with about 20 attendees, who agreed to withhold the referendum petition after learning of the action.
Explorer Post 98 Taos joined Kit Carson Council and Chapparel Council at the University of New Mexico for a state wide conference. The event featured a banquet and dance with Donald Benson and four other Explorers honored for outstanding Scout work. Attendees included David Castillo Bobby Said Gary Fauteck Louie Cohn Donald Farrell Steven Mosely and others with Clark Funk as Explorer Advisor.
Three men from Talpa Moises Maestas Greszarlo Gonzales and Ruben Maestas were arraigned in a peace justice court on assault and battery charges with further counts pending. Sheriff Anselmo Valerio said they allegedly threw rocks at a car carrying two couples and attacked the two women. the incident occurred early Tuesday morning and they are to be tried later this week.
Taos County Republicans will hold precinct conventions on Saturday April 15. Precinct chairmen have been notified and convention calls published. Delegates to the county convention will be chosen for the Taos County Courtroom meeting on April 29 at 10 a.m. Taos Precinct 1 Republicans meet at 7 p.m. April 15 in the Courthouse.
A panel truck belonging to Baca's Mexican Kitchens in Albuquerque was damaged Monday when a fire broke out inside the vehicle. Taos Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the blaze, with damage limited to some food items. The department also extinguished a Sunday blaze on Martinez Lane with no damage reported.
Rutilio Suazo 76 of Taos died Friday March 28 from coronary thrombosis. Survived by wife Faustinita two daughters Mrs Victoriana Medina Manassa Cole and Mrs Guadalupe Gonzales Taos one son George Phoenix one brother Ben Santa Fe 12 grandchildren three great grandchildren. Funeral April 1 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with Msgr Sigmund Charewicz officiating. Burial in Dolores Cemetery. Army Pvt Ricky N Trujillo son of Mr and Mrs Nicanor F Cordova of El Prado completed a six week general supply course at Ft Huachuca Ariz He trained in maintaining stock records for receipt and issue of supplies typing administration procedures and storing army supplies in the course deliverables
