Shep Fields and His Orchestra also appear as part of a busy festival lineup at Garrell's Warehouse and New Farmers Warehouse with two afternoon shows and a square dance. Tickets go on sale soon with a nominal admission to cover entertainment costs.
Patrolman W S Allan attended the State Highway Patrol Retraining School in Chapel Hill last week with about 50 men. Allan is assigned to Columbus County and based at Tabor City headquarters.

The Tabor City Parent Teachers Association will hold its first meeting of the year on Wednesday evening October 5 at 7 30 in the school auditorium. President Mrs J Single tary announced the event and Principal C H Pinner urged all parents to attend with an interesting program arranged.

The first annual pione deer hunt for North Carolina residents will be held Friday October 21 at Bladen Lakes State Forest Bladen County. Forty hunters will be split into two groups of thirty with dogs each day and one buck may be taken per person. All hunts run through December with a 150 dollar group payment covering 30 applicants.
The Tabor City Marketing Company opens the sweet potato auction market on October 5 with hours nine to twelve and one thirty to five, Monday through Saturday. Buyers include Garrell Sales and others from North and South Carolina. a one cent levy funds disease control and promotion efforts for Carolina Porto Rico potatoes.

The fourth annual The Methodist Hour will be carried by the Southern Religious Radio Conference through over 90 stations. Delano Godwin, four year old son of Mr and Mrs Leonard Godwin, who had polio in summer, is recovering use of his paralyzed left leg. His mother reports daily exercises and that four toes on the left foot now move, with hope all toes will soon function.
Mount Tabor Baptist Church adopts a rotating deacon system. The three oldest deacons Hartford Fowler E G Kelly and F W Fonvielle to serve three years. October 2 set for selecting remaining six board members. Three rotate off each year with one year restoration rule.
Community Spotlighters invite the public to try out for a two hour session at the Grammar School Collymn next Monday. The play Dear Ruth features five men and five women and has been successfully staged by local schools. A note on British dining car recreates Tudor taverns with timbered decor and cocktail bars.
