Mrs Katherine Seagroves of Laurinburg and Bladenboro, age 31, died when a 1932 Ford left the highway near Fair Bluff and overturned trapping her beneath. Yam Festival Week Proclaimed Across Seven Counties

Mayors across seven counties are urged to declare October 9 to 14 Yam Festival Week. The Carolinas Yam Festival aims feature queen contests with six entrants and a prize package valued around $700 for the winner including a $200 diamond ring from Dorman's jewelers and $500 in apparel and jewelry from local firms. Burning Permits Now Necessary

County Warden B F Batten announces that from October 1 to November 30, anyone burning brush must obtain a Burning Permit from him or an authorized agent to start a fire in Columbus County. The law forbids starting fires in protected woodlands or within 500 feet of them during specified periods without a permit, with fines up to 50 dollars or 30 days imprisonment. Permits are obtainable from listed local offices and agents across the county.

Carolinas Yam Festival Week Urged in Tab or City

Mayors across seven Carolina counties are urged to proclaim a Carolinas Yam Festival Week in October. A letter to Mayor W A Williams requests a cleanup campaign before the festival opens and asks citizens to favor Carolina sweet potatoes during the event.
