County officers destroyed two illicit distillery outfits this week. Deputy Sheriff Mack Canady reported a 75 gallon plant in Lee Towns with a man at the site and a warrant out for Howard Arp. Horry County farmer H J Sarvis died at his home Saturday night after an extended illness. He suffered a stroke about a year ago but remained active until late last week. Funeral services were held Monday at Rehobeth Methodist Church. He is survived by his widow one daughter Mrs Minnie Sarvis and four sons Hubert Malcolm Lacy and Jamie Sarvis all of Horry County and eight grandchildren.
A small service station and residence at the edge of Horry county on Green Sea road burned to the ground after a Wednesday morning dynamiting. Officials report the fire remains under investigation with the cause undetermined and the scene largely destroyed. Clinch Powell, operator of the station, still held on a murder charge related to Curtis Stephens's death five weeks prior.
The Myrtle Beach Rotary Club hosted a ladies night at Ocean Forest Hotel in Myrtle Beach. District Governor James W. Butler spoke on community building and Rotary's role. About 60 attended including visiting couples from Tabor City and local members Mr and Mrs Butler, Mr and Mrs James Rogers, and Mr and Mrs Dan McLeod.
The Red Devils of Tabor City finish 1946 with a 7 6 win over Wallace and set a post season game against Wilmington B team at Whiteville on Thanksgiving Day at 3 00 announced by coach S W Caruso. Whiteville enthusiasts arranged the last minute holiday clash at a new athletic field. Local players, just returning from a cage season prep, will be near peak for the finale.
E G Saaby, a woman, died after a long illness Thursday night. Former Miss Golda Rowell, daughter of Mrs. Helen Hamilton Ro nd aunt of several local residents. Funeral at Baptist church Loris Sunday 2:30 p.m. Burial in Princeville cemetery. Survived by husband, a daughter Mrs E L Hildabrand of Washington, a son Burroughs Prince, seven sisters and three brothers.
Ervin Richardson in critical condition after a car truck collision near Asheboro Friday night. His brother William C. Richardson Jr. 19 died from skull fractures and other injuries. Funeral held Monday at 2 PM from his mother's home. interment in family cemetery. Survived by mother five sisters and two brothers.
Members of the local Woman's club plan a bazaar to be held Saturday December 14 with gift item contributions welcomed. The display committee led by Mrs Winfrey Davis seeks a business district venue. Proceeds fund the clubhouse building, with multiple committees and volunteers coordinating decoration sales and planning.
A report by R S Kolb, State Director of the Farmers Home Administration, highlights achievements of the merged Farm Security Administration and Emergency Crop and Feed Loan Agencies. Since November 1, 4 978 pure bred cows and 11 577 well bred hogs have been purchased by borrowers. Over half the families produced stored food, about 4000 planted cover crops, and 35 percent had never grown cover crops before. Many borrowers have farm maps and plans prepared by the Soil Conservation Service.
Washington reports that the Federal Works Agency has allotted 6800 for preliminary planning and blueprinting of Tabor City's public utility expansion. Proposals include extensive street repair pavement upgrades a strengthened waterworks for firefighting and system extensions to serve all city residences.
Farmers in Columbus County will receive notices about annual elections of community and county committees. Thirty farming communities elect three committeemen two alternates and a county convention delegate. Election date is December 7 with hours and places to be announced. About 2800 farmers are eligible to vote in 1946 program.
The Mount Tabor Baptist church wook men's Missionary Union ends its Prayer Week Friday morning at Mrs. E. W. Fonvielle residence with theme Good News From Far Countries. Sessions hosted by Mrs. Malare Mrs. Davis Mrs. McCormick and others report good attendance.
Federal Works Administrator Phil ip B Fleming released the plan while R E Reynolds the town engineer said he will commence planning and blueprinting immediately and that some work is already done He will complete the survey and then the town will seek a bond election to raise funds for the project as projected.
