Loris Civitan Club at the Hotel Loris completed a Scouts hut project with President Hickinay presiding. The Boy Scout hut committee led by Lloyd B. Bell reported completion ready for occupancy. The citizenship program led by Dallas L Mackey expanded to five local schools Myrtle Beach Loris Wampee Socastee Avnor with Green Sex and Floyds to start soon. Art Wolf and J Horace Graham were elected to full club membership. A special mid year meeting at the Beach Tue Nov 26 was planned by J B Prince and L B Bell.
V R Burroughs Jr son of Mr and Mrs V R Burroughs of Tabor City attends an Order of the Arrow meeting at Fayetteville for 1st Friday to Sunday. He is the only scout in Columbus county tapped into the honorary Boy Scout fraternity.
Mrs Walker Spivey named for PTA president of Tabor City replacing Mrs Ernest Sanders. Other officers nominated at December meeting include Willard Cole as vice president and Viola Thompson as secretary with Ames McGougan as treasurer. Committees list names and chairpersons for Membership Program grade mothers and other duties.
The Rotary Club plans Ladies Night at 7 30 PM Monday at Ocean Forest Hotel Myrtle Beach. District Governor will attend. C H Pinner discussed North Carolina teacher needs and a proposed plan to raise salaries by 20 percent while keeping teachers year round. A round robin system would give each teacher one month off annually while maintaining local civic staff.
The Eastern Star local chapter sponsors a baby contest closing Monday evening at 6:00. The winner will be announced Tuesday at the Thanksgiving party at the Legion hut. Mrs. Gladys Derrick will present a program and a cake walk will be part of the entertainment. The party is at the Legion hut Tuesday evening at 7:30, public invited.
Pfc. Eldred Prince son of Mrs Grad ner Prince from Tabor City North Carolina has arrived at the European Theater Army Air Force Replacement Depot Purstenfeldbruck Germany. He may be assigned to units servicing Army Air Force planes in Germany Italy or France and will have access to Bavarian scenery and nearby sites including the historic Daucaau Concentration Camp. The Luftwaffe training site now under Col Malcolm N Stewart Hampton Virginia serves as a major processing hub for thousands of GIs each month. Prince attended Green Sea High School before joining the Army in December 1945 and later worked for C C Soles and Sons.
Leo F. Thompkins of Myrtle Beach and Conway has joined the Friendly Market meat department. He previously worked at T and T Market in Conway before naval service in the war. He later worked at Myrtle Beach with A and P Tea, and is home with Mrs. Thompkins at her parents’ residence.

A powerful explosion at dawn ripped a service station and residence near the South Carolina line, destroying the building and leaving a large crater. Mrs. Clinch Powell and her child narrowly escaped, while Clinch Powell, jailed on related charges, was held in protective custody. The blast resembled a prior dynamiting at Gore Lake dam, with no suspects yet identified.
The Civitan clubs of Tabor City and Chadbourn and Civenettes gathered at the Comet Club near Lake Waccamaw for their seventh anniversary banquet. About 85 attendees enjoyed light entertainment while Willard G. Cule delivered a humor focused address as guest speaker. Clifford Davis of the Tabor City club chaired the event with a short remark from Chadbourn’s club president.
Willard G. Cole executive secretary of the association attended a Wilmington conference on rural industries. Governor Cherry’s committee organized the meeting to discuss promoting local processing of products in each area. Columbus county delegates included Whiteville group led by James Rogers of the News Reporter and Walter R. Paramore of the Whiteville Merchants Association.
A Thanksgiving service will be held at Mount Tabor Baptist Church on Thanksgiving morning at 7 30 with Pastor Rev Witiey Davis delivering the message. At 9 30 Saint Pauls Methodist Church will hold a Thanksgiving service led by Rev Joseph F Coble. The public is invited.
Mrs W W Woody, program chair, spoke on music at the November Woman's Club meeting in Mount Tabor Baptist church. She traced music history and its forms, highlighted how knowing music cards and arrangement aids appreciation, and introduced the Golden Jubilee Singers performing on Conway radio.
Tabor City Red Devils shut out Chadbourn 27 to 0 after a scoreless first half. Fred Spies played through illness aiding the attack as Ted Fipps scored twice and returned a 75 yard run, with Jernigan adding a 20 yard touchdown.
J. P. Huggins announced a cannery program for local farmers with advance appointments for meat canning. The Britt family bought the Anderson Building housing the bus station and City Cash store, plus adjacent lots, highlighting a burst of rapid real estate transactions in the week.
Tabor City Red Devils close the 1946 football season with two games at Wallace. Coach Caruso leads the squad after a 6 to 0 win over Wallace two weeks ago. Injuries and flu leave the Red Devils underdog to Wallace despite a 5–1–2 record.
Mrs. Mary Hodge 70 widow of Tom Eudge died Thursday at 11 43 a.m. at the home of her grandson Dalton Hodge on route 2. Funeral services were held Saturday at Mount Bulan Church with Rev. J A Hux officiating. Interment in Mount Zion Cemetery. Survived by son Sam Hodge of route 1 and two daughters Mrs Bulah Harrison and Miss Magele Hodge of route 2, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The Western Auto Associate store owned by 5. T. Rogers hired Festus Hardee this week. Hardee, a local man, was previously employed by a Charleston bus company.
Wade Roberts aged 13 narrowly escaped serious injury Friday as a car driven by Miss Costa Rogers struck him while he skated on the Green Sea highway near his home. He suffered facial head and neck lacerations and bruising, received treatment from Dr. R. M. Williamson, and remains homebound with a cold and bruises. He is the son of Mrs. H. H. Roberts and the late Mr. Roberts.
Dr H G Dameron pharmacist at Prince Drug Co buys the business from J Oliver Prince and takes full ownership. A UNC Pharmacy graduate native of Star NC, he previously worked with Lane Drug stores in Wilmington. The Cameron family has long linked to medicine.
The Tabor City chapter of the Order of Eastern Star held an initiation Monday evening at the Lodge hall. Blanche W. Hyman and Ruth Harrelson joined the chapter. Inez H. Rogers presided as acting worthy matron with James St. Rogers as acting worthy patron. Representatives from Loris chapter and Whiteville lodge attended. Hostesses were Mack Spivey, E. H. Hickman, J. J. Canady, and J. L. Winstead. A sweet course was served during social hour.
Harry Harrelson marked his birthday on Saturday November 16 and his wife the former Miss Walter Gaskin celebrated Sunday November 17. J W High reported a large deer hunt near Elkton, earning a second big buck in one day. J P Brown and Nolds visited Raleigh on town business, and Mrs J A McGougan joined them. Electricians worked to set up Tabor City's first postwar Christmas lights, expected to glow soon.
