Charlie Phillips, retired professor at Woman's College Greensboro, will speak at the Columbus County Unit of the North Carolina Education Association Public Relations Banquet in the school cafeteria Saturday night. Two Small Children Die In Guideway Fire Tragedy
Flames leveled a Guideway farm house about 10:30 a.m. Thursday, killing 20 month old Donnie Nelson Wilson and 3 year old Sammy LeRoy Wilson, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Booker T. Wilson. The house on Tillman Gore’s farm burned from a heater fault. the mother, away briefly, found the ruins upon return. A separate report notes a Nakina man 41 killed when struck on a rural road near Reaves Ferry, with an accident ruled as such and a forthcoming inquest. The church at St Francis Xavier in Tabor City has new exterior paint improving its look.

Rescue Squad Frees Marine Pinned In Car
A 27 year old Marine was freed from a wrecked car after about two hours by the Tals Rescue Squad. Thomas Gaston Harrelson of Beaverdam was pinned under an overturned vehicle and charged with reckless driving. Both Harrelson and Roger B. Cobos, 22, were injured and hospitalized at Camp Lejeune. Additional local accidents cited include a two car crash five miles north of Tabor City and a wrong side of road charge for Hubert Williams.

Socialites of Tabor City School present a Friday night talent show in the auditorium at 7 30. Adults pay 50 cents more than students 35 cents. Proceeds support the activity bus. Organizers include Dor Turbeville Linda Phipps Jo Ann Wright and Peggy Taylor with judges Mrs Johnson Mrs Hucknaby and Mr Lay and advisor Mr Burleson coordinating.
