Funeral rites were conducted Saturday at 2:00 PM from the Rehobeth Pentecostal Church for Mrs. Fila Graham 78 of Gallivants Ferry who died Friday at a Mullins hospital. Pastor Rev Nobles led the service with burial in the church cemetery. She leaves two daughters Mrs. Grettie Smith and Mrs. Mary Jones a son R V Squires of Conway and brothers and sisters including Levi Squires of Agnor Addie Dix and Fannie Bell of Loris.
Mrs Callie Soles, 61, died at her home on Tabor City route 2 Thursday March 13. Last rites were held at Emerson Baptist church Saturday at 2 pm with Rev Noah Duncan officiating. Interment in Soles cemetery. Survived by husband Calvin Soles and sisters Mrs IE Chandler and Mrs Renaj Gri.
Funeral rites were held Thursday afternoon for Ben E. Bell aged 77 who died Wednesday afternoon in Conway hospital. He was the brother of J. C. Bell Sr. of this city and survived by two brothers Tom and Cree of Wampee and a son Kent of Washington D C.
Gertrude Kay Dew of Tabor City North Carolina died Sunday in Conway. She had come to North Carolina to marry her fiancé Mr Dew whom she had met in her hometown Tampa Florida. Funeral services were held Thursday at 4 PM in Jessup Inman Funeral Home chapel with Rev Winfrey Davis officiating. Burial followed in Spivey Cemetery.
J Perey Brown and Jesse Brown purchase Vaught's Men Shop in Whiteville and open as Brown's Men's Shop next to Collins Department Store. Jesse Brown to manage. J Percy Brown to remain co owner from Tabor City. The business plans include expanding display of men’s clothing and back storage area. The manager recently discharged after three years with the Eighth Air Force.
Ida Strickland, longtime Cherry Grove resident and daughter of the late Matthew and Mary Eliza Edwards Strickland, died Sunday afternoon after a brief illness. Final rites were held Monday at Cherry Grove Baptist Church at three o'clock.
Tabor City Presbyterians will hold their annual supper Thursday evening March 27 at 7 30. Church ladies will bring baskets of food and serve the meal. Afterward officers and committees of all church organizations will present reports.
W Z Morgan, 30, a Tabor City Lumber Co employee, suffered a painful injury when a log rolled from a truck and struck him while unloading. He was rushed to Columbus County Hospital in Whiteville. Morgan is a native of Myrtle Beach.
The Spotlighters plan a three act comedy production with casting underway. Public performances are slated for mid April with strong backing after prior success. Birth announcements: a son for Mr and Mrs Johnnie Cribb on Clarendon Route 1 March 9. a daughter for Mr and Mrs Clyde Lovette on Route seee March 13. a son for Mr and Mrs Wendell Strickland on Route 2 March 8. a son for Mr and Mrs Henry Arthur Spivey on Route 2 March 5.
A daughter was born at the home of Mr and Mrs Blease Gore in Tabor City on March 10.
H G Cameron, owner of Dam eron Di store, led the Columbus ted precounty chapter of the Educational Foundation at a Whiteville armory meeting. Thirty former Carolina students attended as Coach Carl Snavely spoke and the Sugar Bowl game mode was shown. Others present included J Bell, Bill Truitt, Niris Garrell, and W Horace Carter.
George E. Pritchard, a Elizabeth City lawyer, fatally shot Judge C F Thompson as he read in his living room Sunday night and then killed himself. The judge, reading the Raleigh News and Observer, was killed instantly. Pritchard had been sentenced for criminal libel against State Rep W T Halstead. he was to begin serving his term Monday after the higher court upheld his conviction.

Fred M. Jernigan opened a feed and feed store this week on 5th Street next to the Firestone store. The shop will carry popular feed lines and sell baby chicks with A. O. Graham as manager.
Horace Carter of Albemarle launched The Tribune in Tabor City last June after moving from UNC to the Merchants Association job. The issue dated February 28 proclaims the paper as the first ever printed wholly in Tabor City. Readers praise Carter for dedication and the new local paper.
The tenth grade English class has obtained names of students abroad for correspondence to promote relationships and to foster interest in other countries.
Dalton Ward and Harvey Stevens, high school students, crashed into each other after school Tuesday causing serious injuries. Dalton broke his nose and Harvey sustained a head injury while receiving treatment. Earlier Tuesday morning David Turbeville, a fifth grade student, suffered a broken nose when struck in the face by a baseball bat on school grounds.
A meeting at the Methodist church will discuss forming a young people class for men aged 18 to 30. Officers are to be elected and an organizational meeting expected to follow the social tonight. All Methodists in this age group are urged to attend and participate.
Mrs Johns ie R Nunn of Whiteville is named Columbus county chairman for the North Carolina League for Crippled Children. The drive runs from Thursday through Easter Sunday April 6 with a goal to aid 62000 disabled children in recovery schooling recreation and vocational guidance. Marie Stephenski returns to duties at the Merchants Association after illness.
The United States Civil Service announces an examination to fill a rural free delivery carrier position in Tabor City. Applications must be filed before the April deadline, and eligibility requires at least 12 months served at the post office.
The seventh annual North Colina Methodist conference of the Woman's Society of Christian Service ends today at noon at Grace Methodist church in Wilmington. The event began Wednesday morning with Mrs. Gurney P. Hood of Raleigh presiding. Rev. Joseph F. Coble attended the Thursday session as pastor of the local charge.
Dr. L. M. Medlin leaves Tabor City on Wednesday for Memphis Tennessee to attend a medical meeting. He plans to observe and study hospital management during the absence. His office will be closed for about ten days.

A listener mailed a card to enter the contest and gain an equal chance for the thrice weekly drawing. Tom Garrell, recently married in Florida, reportedly faced car lock trouble and whitewash incidents near his home.
