Plans Set For Big All Star Basketball Tilt

Presbyterian Men to Meet Tuesday at Tabor City Church

Presbyterian men of the Tabor City church plan a six thirty p.m. dinner meeting on Tuesday March 16 at the church. Rev Fletcher Hutcheson said the group organized three months ago for fellowship and evangelistic outreach and invites any to join. Pvt Edward Joseph Harres, son of Mr and Mrs P Harrelson, spent the weekend here with his parents at Camp Lejeune, Marine Corps.

Devilettes Carry County Tourney Title Over Chadbourn

The Devilettes defeated Chadbourn to claim the Columbus County tournament girls title led by Alice Horne with 48 points and coordinated defense by Betty Gaskin and Daris Soles. In the boys division White Pine defeated Chadbourn 56-50 as Charles Watson scored 17, giving Wolfpack back-to-back county honors.

Alert Employee Puts Out Fire at Strickland's Market

Strickland's Super Market faces a small wood and sawdust fire near the meat department. Employee J. Strickland stopped a larger blaze Sunday around 11 am, extinguishing flames after a cigarette dropped in sawdust. No damage reported. owner Jennings Strickland praised the alert staff. Local boy slashed as nurse subdued attacker with blackjack

Patrolman Leon Carter subdued a knife wielding assailant Friday night near Ward's place after he slashed Jackie Norris age 1 in Tabor City. Wesley Norris of Wilmington was cut and jailed on charges of assault with a deadly weapon. The injured boy was treated and released the same night.

Citizens Approve Bond Issue South Williams Leads Vote

A sparse turnout in Jumbus County produced strong approval for a school bond issue. In South Williams precincts strong support yielded 332 in favor with 0 against. totals showed 2,201 votes cast overall, 284 against. County Attorney Raymond Mallard praised the result and noted $593,036 for county schools and $146,964 for city schools will be allocated.

Bobcat Killed Near Home Of W A Cox

A bobcat weighing about 3 pounds was brought to the Priv etine office Monday morning by Vin WA Cox of Route 3, Habor. Mr. Cox said the bobcat had been run over by Ralph Pinan near the Cox home. A small crowd gathered to view the carcass and some remarks were made about Bladenbore, but witnesses doubted the cat’s heft matched the feats associated with Bladenbors.

Barbers Raise Funds for Crippled Children Fund

Barbers City Barber Shop donated 17.05, Fowl-1) or Barber Shop 14.60, Lux Barber Shop 14.21, and Stephens Barber Shop 7.20 to a crippled children’s fund drive. A customer paid 9 for a haircut and another two dollars for a shave at Lux. Kenneth Ray praised the support from Col umbuy County Barber’s Association president Bure age Cox. Approximately 100 dollars was raised at the barbecue supper hosted by the volunteer fire department to fund raincoats. Proceeds may cover 16 raincoats and hats, with organizers thanking locals for support while noting a food shortage due to extra plates sold at the door.

Stabbing at Tahor City School Leaves Boy Wounded

A 14 year old student allegedly threatened a classmate with scissors during a fourth period fight at Tahor City School. The assailant stabbed Wayne Fowler in the back, requiring four stitches. Principal Pinner said no charges were filed due to the attacker’s age and withheld name.
