Billy Anderson Seriously Ill in Wilmington Hospital

Little Billy Anderson son of Mr and Mrs Harry Anderson of Conway and grandson of Mrs Lula Anderson is a patient at Dr Sidburys Hospital in Wilmington with a heart ailment and his condition is much worse. Cigarette share of all tobacco rose from about 7 percent in 1943 47 to 40 percent in 1925 29.

Edwards Discusses Marshall Plan At Rotary Meeting

A. C. Edwards gave a Rotary talk in Tabor City outlining the Marshall Plan for European recovery. He noted mixed opinion with critics calling it a gamble and communists opposing it, while Democrats Republicans labor and humanitarian groups largely support the plan as a stabilizer for business.

William J Harrelson Taken By Death At Clarendon

William Jasper Harrelson a Columbus farmer died at his Clarendon home after a brief illness at 78. Funeral services were held at the Clarendon Baptist church with Rev. Clyde Prince and Rev. A. D. Harrelson officiating. Burial in Mt. Sinai cemetery. Survived by wife Sarah C Ward three sons Cornelius Ezra and Foster Harrelson of Tabor City three daughters Letha Bertha and Erma Ward a brother Fourney Harrelson of Tabor City and a sister Mrs Lucy Todd of Fayetteville.

Tabor May Get Auto Mechanical Inspection Lane

Vapor City may gain an auto mobile mechanical inspection lane in the states inspection program. Executive Secretary H B Davis of the Merchants Association said he has corresponded with Arthur T Moore head of the program and Moore indicated a lane could be located in Tabor City. This would save hundreds of car owners from driving more than 20 miles to have their cars inspected as required by state law.

Tabor Town Board Advances Time Of Monthly Meeting

The Tabor Town Board moved its monthly meeting from Tuesday night to Tuesday morning due to Mayor Al Williams being out of town. Town Clerk Percy Brown reported only approval of current bills, with a special meeting to be called next week.

Sister Camp Of WOW To Be Organized Here with installation at the Log Rolling Meet on April 3. Mrs Mae Young appointed to organize a sister camp affiliated with the WOW similar to the Order of Eastern Star to the Masonic Order. A charter of 25 members will be formed and named at installation.

Rev Wert Davis Dies at Virginia Home

Reverend Wert Davis brother of Rev Winfrey Davis former Ta bor City pastor died Sunday afternoon February 22 at his Virginia home after a heart attack. He had conducted services at Mount Tabor Baptist Church and Green Sea Church recently and previously served as Darlington pastor for nine years. Rev L A Taylor executive secretary of the Wilmington Presbytery will speak at Tabor City Presbyterian Church Sunday night at 7 30. Bakery Planned As New Business In Tabor City

Tabor City expects a new bakery to open in the former Pemberton’s Grocery building on Fifth Street. Dr. S J Potts has secured the site for Frank and Mary Augustyn to operate the shop likely named Frank and Mary. The building will be renovated in the coming weeks for cake pie and pastry production.

A number of local students and relatives spent the weekend with their parents and families. Ellen Bulfkin Christine Strickland and Farley Strickland, freshmen at ECTC Greenville, were among those visiting. Four Arrested In Robbery Of Chadbourn Garage

Four white men were arrested in Chadbourn last Friday night in connection with the robbery of Charlie Strickland's service station and garage. The men Ralevs and Isaac Stephens Wayne and Kenny Horne were charged with breaking entering and larceny. Chief Deputy Sheriff W. S. Bullard and Chadbourn Police Chief J. W. Hall reported that they found most of the merchandise tobacco candy cigarettes and sundry items in a pack house and tobacco barn. Entrance was gained through a window.

Columbus County 4-H Boy Yields 108 Bushels Per Acre Corn

Mack Barfield of Chadbourn 4-H proved a 108.5 bushel per acre corn yield in Columbus County after training with the State College Extension Service. County agent Charles D. Raper notes the 1949 result followed earlier 1948 output and offseason fertilization and seed choices.

Tobacco sales drop 74.5 million in North Carolina crop report

The Statewide Crop Reporting Service said North Carolina farmers earned 74,506,240 dollars less from flue cured and barley tobaccos last year due to lower yields and prices. Production declines included 19,703,780 pounds less than 1946, with an acreage cut of 27.54 percent announced for the 1948 flue-cured quota.
