Robert Grumbine of Baltimore Maryland, spring graduate of Western Maryland College, arrived this week to join Rev. Joseph Coble at the Tabor City Methodist charge. Grumbine, a World War II veteran, will enter Duke University this fall and serve with the local church under the Duke Foundation.

Fred S Royter of Henderson predicted high prices for the 1947 crop while noting the current crop would be the most costly yet. Over 300 warehousemen buyers and stowers attended from five flue cured states. J L Lewis R C Coleman Mrs Harriet L Sikes J W Buck Peay and John W Barlow represented Tabor City. A Tuesday banquet featured J B Hutson president of Tobacco Associates who outlined export prospects and foreign conditions for tobacco. Harold D Cooley of North Carolina spoke on federal tobacco commission and industry problems.
Mrs. Clayton Buck 32 was found dead in her bed at her home in Pireway early Saturday. Funeral services were from the home Monday at 10 a.m. Rev. C. B. Hardwick officiated. Interment in Jacobs cemetery. Survived by her husband, two daughters Lola and Irma, four sons James Hubert Robert and John, two sisters Mrs J A Jackson and Mrs Connie Love Elderidge, four brothers Goldie Ernest Henry and Elder ridge Smith, and her parents Mr and Mrs Haywood Smith of Tabor City.
Funeral services for Jode Fowler 63 who died after a lingering illness at a Lumberton hospital were held Monday afternoon at 4 30 from his home with Rev. Noah Duncan officiating assisted by Rev. Jesse Hilburn. Burial followed. Survived by wife Cora Fowler two sons Willie Fowler Clinton and Garland Fowler Tabor City two daughters Lillie Godwin Whiteville and Dizzie Norris Tabor City two brothers LeRoy Fowler Tabor City and Sylvester Fowler Nichols two sisters Callie Fowler and Lona Cartrette Tabor City
In Tabor City voters chose Roberts Stevens and Soles for town commissioner with Roberts leading the field. Al Williams won the mayoral contest by a 121 vote margin as Horace Harrelson and other candidates trailed. July will bring a completely new board as incumbents leave. Poll turnout was high with voters arriving from all city areas and lines at polling sites.
Tabor City Diamonders edged Clarendon 8 1 on Sunday with Fred Walden on the mound allowing five hits and 11 strikeouts. Walden again bested Clarendon in a midweek rematch at Vermesday, winning 12 1 as he matched the five-hit, 11 strikeout effort. Fred Soles and Bobby Wright homered in the midweek game.

A warehouse on North Railroad Street, owned by Cliff Hardwick, burned early Wednesday. Fire crews from Loris and Tabor City fought flames for about two hours, preventing spread to nearby structures. The building valued at 30000 dollars was insured for 10000, with seed and fertilizer inside. A cloud of smoke lingered all day as smaller fires flared.
Parishioners at Whiteville Catholic Church and its missions gathered on the church grounds Wednesday evening to welcome two new priests and bid farewell to two curates departing for Waynesville. Father Toxeah Mundell and Father Charles Harner arrive from Washington, D. C., and Syracuse, N. Y. respectively, after ordination in May. They replace Father Paul Byron of St. Francis Xavier, who moves to Sor City, and Father Francis McCarthy, former airport mission leader. The event drew local Catholics, a St. Rows College contingent, and a choir from nearby institutions. An outdoor supper and music followed.
