A fatal crash near the Fair Bluff Road occurred Sunday morning when a car overturned and burned about 10 o clock. The unidentified victims were treated at Loris Community Hospital before burial. the report mentions Veronica in connection with the deceased.
A Buick overturned on Route 2 near Tabor City injuring four people. Rosella Hua and Fiorella Flowers were among the injured while a passerby and Highway Patrolman Jesse R Williams aided victims as two children escaped. The 1940 Ford and a 1952 Buick collided, triggering the crash and door openings.
South Carolina Tax Commission agents seized 140 cases of beer and 30 pints of whiskey from six businesses on Sunday morning in the Riis area and nearby towns, arresting no individuals but planning to auction the confiscated alcohol. Named operators include A J Suggs Jay's Place Loris and Mary Mac's Place Myrtle Beach. Roy Harrelson faces gambling device charges. Police said licenses will be suspended after Tax Commission action.
FFA members led by Spivey and Melvin Nobles returned from Raleigh with top honors. The club won district and state prizes, including $75 for outstanding work, and placed highly in shop and parliamentary contests. Youths from Columbus Bladen Brunswick New Hanover counties contributed to the district success.
Tabor City merchants are urged to attend a rally at the school agricultural building on Monday night July 8 at 8 15. Directors aim for 100 percent attendance as plans for bus promotions and other urgent business are discussed by the association.
Rembert R. Rogers was seated as president of the Tab tty Rotary Club at its regular Monday night meeting succeeding Don Hughes. New officers included W. storace Carter as vice president Billy Dorman as treasurer Richard Gordon as secretary and directors Alf Williams W. W. Woody Randall Burleson and Carter for fur departments.
Dr ROC Harrelson and his two sons Sterling and Whitney drowned while swimming near an edge of Myrle Beach. A search followed with Dr Harrelson recovered quickly and Sterling never found. Whitney died in the tragedy and Dianne survived. The incident stunned the community and left a lasting memorial.
Residents praise the Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad for tireless 24 hour work to locate Sterling Harrelson's body. Friends say volunteers exhausted every known method in the prolonged search.
The National Safety Council marks a total of 60 years of accident free driving for three postal carriers Tom Argle Carol Watts and Clarence Willoughby. Anutlo a long time rural carrier also has 26 years safe driving. Postmaster Richard Gordon presented safety certificates. In other notes the Rev Martin R Chambers appointed pastor of St Paul Methodist Church Tabor City succeeding Rev Paul Carruth. The Rev Chambers has served at Methodist Shared Rowland for four years and will move to Tabor City Friday. Services were held at St Paul Methodist Church. Also reported the formation of a Horry County United Fund with officers elected at Hicks Grill Conway aimed at coordinating charitable fund drives.
Tally H. Faidings, a native of Columbia, was appointed executive secretary of the Tabor City Merchants Association. He has led the Roosters Club and served as president of the Baptist Brotherhood and as vice president of the Tabor City Recreation Commission. His experience in promotions and community groups was cited as an asset for the new role. The appointment was announced at a special meeting this morning.
