Registerd pharmacist and longtime town healer J. F. Mills recalls when Tabor City had only a few buildings and how medicine has changed. He notes the shift from leeches and simple remedies to specialized drugs, the old days with doctors traveling by bag, and his commitment to serving residents at all hours.
The March of Dimes drive in Tabor City reports over $1,200 raised toward a $1,500 local goal. Campaign director Richard Gordon says only about $300 more is needed, with a major fundraising week ahead.

The meeting with other youth group reps begins at 1 36 p m Friday January 21 in Raleigh. He has four years as a 4 H member with wildlife and forestry focus and attends a wildlife camp after winning an expense paid trip.
The New Garden Club urges city beautification efforts and plans to plant Dogwood trees this week. In cooperation with the Tabor City Garden Club, residents are asked to contact W. C. Truitt at 3101. A list of citizens planting meters will be published in next Week's Tribune.
Mrs Emma Marrelson aged 69 of Loris Route 1 was killed and Mrs Edna Hawes injured when two vehicles collided near Green Sea Road. Investigating officers reported high speed in the Hutchenson car. Harrelson's vehicle was demolished. Mrs Harrelson died later at a hospital. two other occupants were treated for injuries.
Senator Arthur W Wil e turenn Koprenatality Bill Thiyd denounce secrecy measure passed with limited votes. Wiel claims far from majority and accuses state of overreach while Floyd says he voted against the bill and supports openness amid tense committee discussions.
The Waccamaw Bank and Trust Company held its 8th annual meeting in Whiteville with a majority represented by proxy. Clifton E. Tate of Raleigh spoke. the bank reported 1954 results, announced directors reelected, and highlighted progress in service, safety, and community involvement. Mayor Horace W. Carter plans surgery for kidney stones. Garland Fowler of Atlantic Life was honored as The Challenger for top agency achievement.
