Pistol duel at State Line leaves man dead
In a Sunday confrontation at the State Line two patrons clashed over a pistol. Fletcher Dayton Causey 28 of St Tabor City was shot by Keith Lawson who intervened as Causey fired at Jimmy Norris. Causey died en route to Loris Community Hospital. Lawson and Norris aided Causey and Lawson faces bond on unrelated charges. Causey buried Tuesday at Immanuel Holiness church with survivors including his widow Beck Neill Causey and parents.

A coroner's jury recommended Thursday that Bobby Ward and Eloise Waddell be held for the Horry County Grand Jury in the fatal shooting of Elton Ward at State Line. Ward was shot after a family gun incident at Ab Ward's place on State Line.

Iron Hill Child Struck By Car Seriously Hurt
An eight year old boy from Tabor City was seriously injured last Saturday around noon when struck by a car driven by Euston Lee Wright on NC 1005 near Rot. Patrolman A H Campbell reported the child, Richard Puckett, was taken to Loss Community Hospital then Columbus County Hospital before being rushed to a Wilmington hospital. He apparently ran across the road in front of the car while attempting to retrieve a bird.

A contract was signed Tuesday for a 150000 square foot steel tobacco warehouse in Columbus County near Tabor City on Highway 701 By-pass north of Bladen Road. Steel Building Co. will construct for Blautner’s Warehouse, with completion targeted before the first week in July. The facility will feature inside unloading facilities, concrete floors, ample lighting and ventilation, and very cool interior conditions, replacing the old Planter’s Warehouse.
