Two Christmas cantatas thrilled Tabor audiences as local singers presented a lively program at the Baptist church. Spectators praised the vocal group and the performance featured Monteen Winstead and other notable participants, with strong reception and plans for more concerts.
A jumble of names and brief visits to Tabor City and nearby areas recaps social rounds with Evelyn Canady, Donnie Canady, Mr and Mrs Puckett, and Gore families visiting Wilmington Durham and Nakina. A Yuletide cantata at Saint Paul Methodist led by Mrs. W. P. Cox featured Miss Manteen Winstead and Rebecca Floyd.
Scouts this week repair old toys to distribute to needy children at Christmas. Scouts will pick up toys from donors and deliver to families through contact with local troops.
Bank and post office will close for the holiday. Other local offices will shut down as observed, with residents advised to plan ahead for service disruptions.
Mrs James R Busbee, just back from Japan, spent last week with her mother Mrs Sarah Bozeman and will join her husband at Fort Smith after Bragg. Mr and Mrs James Faulk visit friends in Guideway as Lester Long and others make business trips to Whiteville Tabor City and South Carolina. Ralph and Auburn Long return from Rock Hill S C while Buelsh Stocks and daughter Annie Mae visit from Nakina.
Workers in Tabor City will enjoy a two day holiday as the Merchants Association voted to close Monday December 27 and Christmas Day. Stores will stay open until 7 p m on Monday and Friday evenings to accommodate Christmas shoppers.
Dorothy Ray Soles two month old daughter of Mr and Mrs Lee Soles died in Columbus County hospital Wednesday morning. Short services were held at the graveside Friday at 2 p.m. Surviving besides the parents are sisters Geraldine and Carolyn and brother Way. The C Westmoreland family plans to spend Christmas with relatives in Columbia.
James S Rogers was elected master of Tabor Lodge 503, F. and A. M., at the December 14 meeting. Jack Strickland named senior warden, H. Dewey Stevens Sr. junior warden, Willard Garrell treasurer, and R T Bruton secretary. Eleven members received 25 year certificates. The next issue will publish January 5, 1949.
The Ritz theatre will present two Sunday matinee shows and drop Sunday night screenings. Owner Joe H. Anderson announced the new schedule yesterday. The first show starts at noon with continuous screenings. The first 400 patrons arriving before 2 p.m. will be admitted free.
Projection equipment and seating are being installed at the New Tabor theatre on Green Sea road. Indications point to a January opening for the new show.
The Christmas decoration committee of the Tabor City Woman's Club will judge homes and business places Friday night for beautification awards. Chairman of the decoration committee is Mrs. Leon Fonvielle.
Young People’s Bible class at Saint Paul Methodist church will sponsor the Tabor City Boy Scout troop for the coming year. Alden Leonard chairs the troop committee with Vernon Averitt Ned Butler Everett Prince LaRue Cox and Frank Norris on the committee. A E Goldfinch is institutional representative S P Smith is the Scoutmaster and W R Burroughs is assistant Scoutmaster.
Special Christmas services at Thor City Holiness church Tavrsdiy December 7 at 7 pm. Pastor W. V. Norton of St. Pauls will lead the service. Public invited to attend.
Tabor City teams traveled to Elizabethtown for a double header Saturday. The Red Devils defeated Loris 47 19 behind Stanley 12 points while Fipps and Stevens controlled the boards. The Elizabethtown girls beat Tabor City 34 20 with Bennett 17 and Grice 8 leading for Elizabethtown. The Tabor City boys lost 32 25 as Stanley 12 led the Devils.

The community invites all to a Christmas program at Tron Hill church and reports a near kitchen fire when an oil stove flamed up at the Canady home with only minor damage.
The Tabor City Red Jams will face the Fairmont All-Stars in a season bowl game after both teams reported top form. Each squad indicates they will bring full strength to the clash, aiming for a decisive victory over the other after two tied games this year.
A certificate of incorporation was issued last week by Secretary of State Thad Eure to McGougan Electric Company of Tabor City. Authorized capital stock was set at $0,000 with $500 subscribed by J. M. McGougan Velma McGougan and J. C. Bell Jr all of Tabor City.
Rickie Jean Norris, daughter of Clyde and Mrs Norris, seeks help to reunite her nine month old pup Snookie. Snookie, a black and white bulldog with short legs and a heavy set frame, went missing near Route Three. Norris hopes Claus can bring her a new lead or help recover Snookie before Christmas.
The Adult Baptist Training Union of Mount Tabor Baptist Church staged a Christmas pageant Sunday night retelling the Nativity scene. About 12 participants took part and music was provided by Furman Fowler.
Green Sea News lists Christmas holiday travel and visits by residents. Ernest Hayes and family, Misses Rachel Watson Sylvia Lupo Verna Hugsins and others journeyed to Kentucky for a pleasure trip. Faculty member Bea Strickland traveled to Miami for Christmas with niece Bonnie Clemons. Several students and residents are noted returning from Winthrop, Clemson, and Flora Macdonald to spend the holidays with families. Mrs. Herbert Lewis is recovering in Mullins hospital. Community members attend church events in Whiteville, and Milton Clemons brings home Virginia Prince from Winthrop for holidays. Donald Watson and Edwin Buffkin plan holiday visits with parents. The high school superintendent Gibsons were shopping in Florence. Adult BTU held a party at the church with games led by Mrs. Edgar Lee McGougan. Ted Lupo was seen out with a pretty girl Sunday, prompting curiosity.
The Civitan Club at Windy Hill held a ladies program last Wednesday with about 60 attendees. S. T. Rogers led a gifts program with Santa presenting to visitors, while Phil Hughes and the Rotary club contributed aid. The Tabor City post office reported smooth Christmas service with public cooperation and no extra help needed.
City schools close at 1 p m Tuesday for Christmas holidays and will reopen Wednesday December 29.

The Tab or City Merchants Association banquet on Thursday January 3 will be a Ladies Night event. The arrangements committee chairman said the meeting is open to all and attendees are urged to bring friends. Tickets are available from the association office or from listed local figures including Rogers Goldfinch White Hewett Wine stead Soles McCormick Garrell and Woady.
A Christmas program for the children of Tabor City Presbyterian Church was held Monday night under the direction of Mrs D A Blue and Misses McCullock and Carolina. Readings of The Christmas Story, songs, and gifts from beneath the Christmas tree concluded the event.
