James Patrick Belk eighty age died Monday at Loris Community Hospital Nursing Home after a two week illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Beulah Presbyterian Church near Monroe North Carolina with interment in the church cemetery. Survived by widow Sarah Nesbit Belk of Tor City two sons Ralph Lake Richmond Virginia and Samuel Belk of Washington DC two daughters Mrs W A Williams of Tabor City and Mrs Joe Polk of Cincinnati Ohio three brothers May Belk Darlington Blake Belk Myrtle Beach and Olin Belk Gastonia two sisters Mrs George Hart and Miss Lessie Belk both of Monro.

Columbus and Horry County officers raided Luther Powell's establishment on the State Line for the second time in under a month. Luther and Elbert Powell were charged with possession of taxpaid whiskey for resale and posted $300 bonds. The raid involved Horry County Policemen George Fowler and Willis Gatse and Columbus County Deputy Sheriffs J R Hunt and John Coleman.

Man Wounded Two Arrested In Weekend Shooting
A Saturday afternoon shooting left one man wounded and three people arrested on Fail Bluff road west of Tabor City. Jack Bryant was treated at Conway Hospital after a 5 p.m. incident at the dB Simmons. Deputy Hunt said Bryant was hit in the right shoulder by a .22 calibre pistol. Louise Simmons and Jack Moss were jailed on charges of engaging in an affray in which a deadly weapon was used. Officers Hunt and Sheriff Joti Coleman made the arrests.

Winn-Dixie paid 40 per hundredweight for the reserve grand champion steer weighing 1051 pounds, bringing $408.04 to owner Wrenht Wayne. Columbus Livestock Judging Team led by Richard Bowen and Kirk Wayne topped the livestock judging contest. Wayne was high individual scorer in swine with 262 of 300, and Wayne took first in beef cattle showmanship while Bowers earned second in record keeping. Local businesses funded the sale with multiple steers sold to Memory's Super Market, Columbus Cold Storage, Washam and Warrick Farm Supply, Thriftway Super Market, and others. steers weighed 908 to 1510 pounds, purchased for varied prices per pound.
