The racing column weighs Nuffield as Derby favourite but warns on his lack of recent racing and a faultless preparation. It notes Gold Rod's Hill Stakes pace, Agolas as likely best conditioned, and Petruchio and Respirator as challengers, with Derby odds leaning on Nuffield if fit.
The article covers Lady Childewood and Lawn Derby racing highlights in Australia and New Zealand. It notes Lady Childewood’s Perth return after the NZ Inter Dominion, her Garaldton Handicap win at Gloucester Park, and career era details. It also discusses Lawn Derby’s anticipated Christchurch visit, a potential record attempt on a mile, and broader trotting scene in Sydney including new reinsman pay rules and figures from the Trotting League.
Aeolus, winner of the Rosehill Guineas, is a plain black colt from the No 1 family bred by P. Miller at Kia Ora NSW. He has connections to Heroic, Magpie, The Night Patrol, and The Trump, with a half brother Prowler racing in NSW country circuits. Sold for 1600 guineas before the Guineas, Aeolus is described as a fairly cheap horse with strong bloodlines across Sundridge St Simon and Carbine lines, noted for courage and potential among NSW two-year-olds.
