A Brief History of Swarthmore Preparatory School
A 28 year history ends soon for Swarthmore Preparatory School for Boys founded in 1892 by Arthur H. Tomlinson. It was Swarthmore Grammar School for six years and coed until 1913. Over 3,000 pupils attended, 500 graduated. 85 percent of alumni entered college in the last five years. Professor Tomlinson’s influence on academics athletics and Christian tradition guided the school until his January 14, 1920 death. Willard P. Tomlinson has led since 1919 with 1913–present service as instructor. A corporation was formed to run boarding and day programs.
