New Combination Motor Fire Apparatus Delivered for Borough
The American Type 12 combination motor fire apparatus was tested by Borough Councils and the Fire Association, delivering 780 gallons per minute with two nozzles. It carries 1200 feet of hose, 40 jars of chemical, and a crew of eight. rated 35 mph, electric lighting, and a large front searchlight. Officials hailed it as a valuable addition despite some dissatisfaction with performance.

Swarthmore's oldest worship site aside from the Friends' Meeting House, built in 1895 as a Union Church, later became a Methodist Episcopal Church. The first Methodist service was on January 5, 1962, led by Bishop Cyrus D. Foss. The church now looks to a bright future under Pastor Rev. Luther H. Ketels.
