War Swarthmore Honors Roll Names Many Service Members

The Swarthmore honor roll lists numerous personnel with ranks and branches from U S Army Navy Marine Corps Coast Guard and National Guard. Included are Lt Col Wax Stockton Lt Thomas Burke and many others such as Walter Starley Teas Gal Robt Bartram and James P Brown among others noted with U S military affiliations. Presbyterian Church Christmas Festival and Sunday Programs

Santa Claus will start from Baltimore Pike at 1 A M on Christmas morning with stops at Chester Road and Swarthmore Avenue then Walnut Lane Whittier Place Cedar Lane Elm Avenue Chester Road College Riverside and Swarthmore Avenues. The south side runs along Chester Road Dartmouth Lafayette Princeton Yale Dickinson Vassar Harvard Park Haverford Rutgers Cornell Westdale and Yale Avenues ending at Strath Haven Inn.

Lieut Warren to Spend Christmas with Parents

Lieut Harold C. Warren chaplain of the First Presbyterian church at Walla Walla Washington returns from France for Christmas with his parents Dr. and Mrs. George Warren of Swarthmore. He served six months at the front with the AEF, carried supplies under fire, then suffered influenza and medical care. He plans to stay at home to recuperate. A cable message said he would arrive today.

Interesting Meeting Of The Woman's Bible Class

The Woman's Bible Class of the Presbyterian church held a meeting on Sunday morning. The lesson covered forgiveness and its human and divine aspects. It stressed that true forgiveness requires absence of malice and retaliation and following Jesus Christ's teachings. Visitors are invited to attend at 10 a.m.

Airplane makes forced descent on aero mail route

An aviator had to descend when the engine stopped while flying over Swarthmore. The plane landed in a field north of Morton with no injuries or damage reported. A mechanic was summoned from Bustleton, crowds viewed the aircraft overnight, and the plane continues to fly the Swarthmore to Washington Philadelphia route.

Junior Section Woman's Club Meeting Report

The Junior Section of the Woman's Club met at Miss Helen Elmore's home on Thursday December 12. Miss Ethel Whittier and Miss Muriel Cianci provided musical selections. Annabelle Potter read a letter from Fred Foulkes aboard a destroyer. Mrs Philip E How ard read letters from her husband and two sons. The next meeting will be at the Misses Hill on Cornell avenue January 16.

Dr Ellis and Son Sail for Cheer to Soldiers Abroad

Dr William T. Ellis of Swarthmore and his son Franklin Ellis sail on the Adriatic for Europe and the Near East. They visit London Paris battlefields France Rome Athens Salonica and other regions and will be away at least six months. They urge Christmas cheer and solicit donations to the Xmas fund run by Mrs. Landis.

The aeroplane descent over Swarthmore caused great excitement among children. E A Stockton hosted a twelve cover dinner Friday. Mrs. Ledoux entertained the Bridge Club Wednesday. Mrs. Foster and daughter visit with Mr. and Mrs. Stockton. Twenty Woman’s Club Chorus members sang for convalescent soldiers at Camp Dix. The High School Orchestra enhances borough culture. Over 630 garments were donated to the Needlework Guild for Chester Hospital and Babies Hospital in Philadelphia.
