On Monday Braybrook Council will elect a new President with Dr Reg Barclay favored to win. The riding rotation gives Central Riding this year the honor, while Drs Hayden and McDonald may be unavailable. Mayoral allowances rise seen elsewhere, as Braybrook eyes city status this year.
Charles Melville Irving of St Albans pleaded guilty to larceny and was fined £10 in default one month imprisonment after being found guilty of stealing two tractor headlamps valued at £6 8s from H V McKay Massey Harris Pty Ltd. Foreman Robert Pola testified he found a carton with three headlamps, later missing from the work area.
The pre annual meeting on August in Theatre Hall featured a keen debate between member teams. Officers for the coming year were nominated with secretary Hibbs retiring and N Green taking over. The annual meeting will be held at Shire Hall on September 12. all members urged to attend.
Members are reminded of a meeting on Tuesday evening next in September. An Euchre afternoon will be held on Tuesday with hostesses Mrs Richards and Mrs Perkins.
Vacancies in Central Southern and Western Braybrook ridings produced lively contests last Saturday with no major legal issues. In Western Riding M B Lynch defeated W Stevenson. Southern Riding saw Dr E Drayton lose to K Kirby by a wide margin, while Central Riding results reflected local popularity and party neutrality in Sunshine voters.
Cr Frank Hayden increases his majority to two and a half to one over two opponents in the Central Riding election. Mer C. H. Whiting was defeated while residents of Commonwealth homes voted for Hayden. Final tally in three booths shows Hayden nov to 604 majority.
