Wages Row Roils Braybrook Officers and Servants Debate

Turbulent Braybrook Officers and Servants Committee meeting over a wage rise for council staff. Clash between Dr G E Dobson and Dr T R Bareler marked the session. Tabulated comparisons showed Braybrook below Footscray but above Brighton and Caulfield. Earlier letters from employees and staff urged a rise and increased leave. Amendments moved. Dobson urged fair parity, Barclay clashed, and chair’s rulings sparked exchanges. Amendments carried 4 to 4 and 5 to 4 on strict votes. council to ratify on Monday.

Sunshine Methodist Choir Leads Sunday Choral Service

The Sunshine Methodist Church Choir led a Sunday evening choral service singing anthems. The consecration hymn Open the gates of the Temple was arranged by Louis Lavator. Kennedy Russell sang Poor Man's Garden with Miss Barker as soloist. Pastor B R Tot of Victoria Street Footscray will preach. A recent Spring Fair raised 2631 pounds for the Sunday School Building Fund, boosting committee morale ahead of the November 16 Sunday School Concert at the Shire Hall to further swell funds.

Presbyterian Girls Market Fair at Sunshine Fellowship

The Sunshine Presbyterian Girls Fellowship announces a Market Fair in the Sunday School Hall on Saturday October 10 starting at 2 30 pm. Attendees can buy weekend supplies from stalls selling flowers vegetables groceries sweets cakes and fancy goods with Devonshire tea served in the afternoon.

Ladies Auxiliary Visit Caulfield Hospital Ward for Singing

The auxiliary visited Caulfield Military Hospital on Wednesday and entertained the men in No 2 Ward with hems and community singing. Members are reminded of the social evening in the clubrooms tomorrow and the committee meeting on Tuesday next.

Opening of turf wicket at Sunshine Cricket Club

A large civic gathering at Selwyn Park witnessed the opening of the Sunshine Cricket Club on the new turf wicket despite earlier postponements. The event featured the Sunshine Band, free afternoon tea, a public address system, and transport from the Post Office. President C G Carlton, J.P., announced future ground improvements and thanked Braybrook Council and the Cricket Association. Shire President Dr KR Parrett declared the ground open and pledged council support for sport.

Sunshine Presbyterian Men's Brotherhood Meeting Held

The first combined meeting of the Sunshine Presbyterian Men's Brotherhood was held at Selicol Hall on Wednesday evening. Guest speaker C A McCallum, Chief Librarian of the Victorian Public Library, spoke on Books and People. The president Arthur Johnston thanked the visitor and urged all Presbyterians to join the Brotherhood via secretary M Arthur Templeton Jnr.

Royal visit preparations for Braybrook Shire float

Braybrook Shire plans a floral float for a Royal visit procession next year. The council seeks help from H. V. McKays gardening staff and private men. Council halls across the Shire may be decorated during the Royal party’s Victoria visit. The Haiti Committee recommends avoiding extravagance while creating a memorable keepsake for children.

St Albans Social Notes Mark 80th Birthday Celebrations

Residents of St Albans gathered at East Msplanade to honor Mrs. A Gibson on her 80th birthday with tea and cake. Updates include an upcoming meeting, gymkhana results, Kuchre at the hall, a Presbyterian Church Social Evening for October 27, and a Grand Old Time Ball on October 22 at Mechanics Hall to support Mothers' Club funds. Re valuation of Shire to be investigated

The Legislative Committee added a plan for a complete re valuation of Mraybrook Shire properties. A special sub committee including Drs Barclay Drayton Lynch and Dobson will report on means to carry out the re valuation. Under the Local Government Act a shire must re value every six years, but Bray brook has not done so since 1938 99 due to the war.
