At the St Albans Progress Association monthly meeting on Tuesday next the group will discuss the State Rivers and Water Supply Commission stance on the local water scheme. The promise of government support from J Cain M L A for Northcote is expected to be noted. A Five Hundred tournament will be held tomorrow night at the Mechanics Institute to aid funds.
At Sunshine court this morning two dog owners escaped harsher penalties after the prosecuting officer L E Thorpe urged leniency. One owner faced possible eviction. the other paid 2/6 costs and the summons was withdrawn. The first case was adjourned indefinitely.
Golfers enjoyed ideal Saturday conditions for trophies donated by Fred Kitchen. Winners included Mrs Bell and Mr Dinnell with a men’s score sequence led by W Dinnell at 66 and 68s by T Williamson and E J Pampa. Ladies top score by Mrs Bell at 75. next tied at 76 to 84. Tomorrow stroke competitions are scheduled.
Dr Jock Watson warns of spread of hoary cress in paddock near Lynch's corner and along the Deer Park to Rockbank railway line. Councillors refer the matter to the Vermin and Noxious Weeds section of the Department of Agriculture for action.
Edward Blackmore Walter James Falla and Leonard Falla were each fined 10 shillings at the Sunshine court for riding bicycles on Ballarat Road Sunshine without rear lights attached.

Herbert Power Handicap goes to Wotan with Flood Tide Balkan Prince behind. Toorak Handicap winner Counter Patrol Spinifex and The Trump follow. Best each way bets pair Wotan with Counter Patrol while Caulfield and Melbourne Cup Double features Wotan and Balkan Prince.
After a long racing season the club hosts a quiet gathering as hopes rise for the Cup. Willie Willie wins the pageant by slipping out as Silver Standard pots enter, defeating Balkan Prince and Sir Grey at the finish.
George Grimley of Sydney Street was charged at the Sunshine court for riding a motor cycle on the footpath in front of the Baptist Church. Shire inspector L. E. Thorpe testified to observing the offence on Sunday September 5. Grimley received a 10 shilling fine plus 2 shillings 6d costs.
Dr Charles Byrne reports a seven year old boy with infantile paralysis admitted to the infectious diseases hospital. The State School to close to Grade 5 pupils and isolation for desk mates. Father leaves dairy job though milk not a transmission risk. Council powerless over private halls but urges parental caution. Gym display proceeds. girls’ event postponed.
At a council meeting a resolution was passed to close the Baby Health Centre until further notice and to refuse use of the town hall for any juvenile entertainment.
The Albion and the Methodist Sunday Schools have been closed to observe anniversaries. Services and prize distributions were cancelled, ending normal activities for the period.
The Albion School and Catholic School are closed to children up to the 4th grade. Dr. Byrne has asked Sunday school ministers to close until further notice. It is expected the schools will adopt the suggestion.
At about 2 p.m. today authorities confirmed the second case at Sunshine, previously suspected, with the victim identified as a sister of the child already reported ill with the disease.
Dr Byrne announced that microscopic and technical tests definitively diagnosed the case as infantile paralysis. Authorities urged the public to aid in isolating contacts and countering the disease’s spread to curb rumors locally.
