In St Albans next Monday the Knot Krackers present a concert featuring two comedies and a dramatic sketch with vocal items, followed by a dance at the local hall to benefit school funds. Organizer J H Stevens and pianist Ern Roberts aid the event as numbers of local interest appear.
Rain halted all tennis on Saturday causing many draws and practice loss for players. Gardens B beat Gardens A 7-4, and Eddy and Pumpa led 3-1 before rain paused play. St Albans B and Albion game finished 6-5, with other matches marked as abandoned or no information available.
At the Sunshine Progress Association meeting the main discussion focused on opening a private six to twelve foot path to connect Hampshire Road with Stamford Street, with six petitioners urging action. Members also complained of underweight goods, questioned the Weights and Measures Act, and noted delays in import of standards from England. Residents asked for footpath repairs in Kamarooka Street and raised wandering stock issues. the ranger was cited as handling enforcement. Plans for public conveniences site were discussed with doubts about cost recovery.
At the final meeting the association set umpire allocations for round one with Druids v East Sunshine A and others. Twenty one applications were narrowed to ten, and permits, registrations, and clearances were reviewed. Scholarships and trophies were presented by Dr Pridham with contributions from Kirby and Green acknowledged. A St Albans match selection and train times were listed, with emergencies noted and suggestions to council about public tennis courts.
Messrs Ken Lowe and George Penrose jun have passed the municipal clerks examination. Lowe works for the Shire of Braybrook while Penrose studied to fit for a future position in local government.
Obituary notes the passing of Mra Holman of Kilmore aged resident for forty five years. She is mother of Mrs G Penrose of Hampshire Road Sunshine. Funeral held in Kilmore on Wednesday with large turnout.
Mr H Dawson will visit Sunshine Baptist Church on Sunday October 7 to commence a fortnight's mission. On Tuesday October 9 he will deliver a lantern lecture travelogue of New Zealand. His recent NSW visit drew a large crowd. 1940 seats, at least 309 failed to gain admission. slides were from a unique photographer and he is described as a racy speaker.
