Braybrook Council Delays Action on Unmade Street Channels

At its last meeting Braybrook Council decided to take no action on a request from the West Maidstone Progress Association for attention to unmade street channels in Maidstone. It was noted the area lies within the Housing Commission scheme and any existing channels would be in maze aid.

Albion Housing Plan Sets 0 Sites with Mixed House Types

The Housing Commission announces its Albion programme with 0 sites acquired for new homes. It includes 27 Morigan type houses facing Braybrook Council objections, 31 timber houses built by MacDougal & Ireland, and two weddal experimental prefabricated wooden homes. Plans aim for varied spacing to avoid uniformity.

Obituary of Gavin H. McKay in Bendigo

Gavin Henry McKay died at his Bendigo home yesterday. He served in the H14-14 wit and was a Drummartin Hunter district farmer active in Methodist circles. His wife mourns his loss as Sunshine Horticultural Society members prepare for a lecture by A. E. R. Gibson on Some Beautiful Gardens at the next meeting.

Technical School Final Examinations At Sunshine School

Final examinations commence Monday for Junior and Intermediate Technical Certificator and Commercial Certificate in both Boys and Girls sections at Sunshine Technical School. Senior Technical exams run during evenings: Carpentry, Dressmaking, Lettering, and related Theory papers. scholarships of five pounds for one year awarded by Ex-Students Association to one boy and one girl after this year’s finals.

Baby show and bazaar postponed to November 24th

The baby show and bazaar, delayed from last Saturday, will now be held on Saturday November 24. Entries remain open with forms at chemists and health centres and inquiries through Mrs W Baker of 42 King Edward Avenue. Tickets for the November 16 concert are on sale from Miss P Mills with each ticket numbered for a chance at double seats at the December concert. Mr D S Shubart, newly appointed trade commissioner, previously worked at Harvester Works in Sunshine and held roles at Army Headquarters during World War I.

Braybrook Shire President Dr. A. G. Pennell on a business trip to London has extended his European visit for a fortnight. He states England faces wartime level food shortages with kegs meat dripping and cooking fat scarce. He notes Australian food parcels are gratefully received and plans to return to Melbourne by November 25 after leaving London on the nineteenth.

Ex-Students Club Plans Beach Picnic and Christmas Dance

Despite wet weather spoiling the treasure hunt, a good number of ex students attended the November meeting on Wednesday. A beach picnic is planned for Sunday 24 November to Bonhead with notices in the Advocate for details. A Christmas dance is scheduled for Monday night 16 December with a lively programme expected.
