Albion Kindergarten and Hall Opened in Braybrook

Dr T R Barclay chaired the opening attended by Reg Pollard MHR Ern Shepherd MLA and their wives. The event marked years of effort from the Albion Progress Association and kindergarten committee toward community facilities with praise for Mrs Burnett and the two committees. Afternoon tea followed at the Methodist Hall as acknowledgments were offered to Mrs D P McLachlan and the auxiliary.

Sunshine Band shines at Ballarat Band Competitions

Local Sunshine Band, funded by community support, placed fifth among ten bands in Ballarat. Bill Wheatley led the act with hopes for aggregate points but the quickstep affected its standing. Bill Eulenstein won second in bass solo and Bob Jarvie second in baritone solo. Wheatley and Hughie Lambert earned honorable mention in their grades. A public performance is planned Sunday at 2 pm, marching from Shire Hall to the Railway Reserve and on to garden plot opposite R K McDonald chemist for a display of marching and playing.

New cricket secretary appointed amid resigning secretary

Dr Norman Green resigns as Sunshine Cricket Club secretary after three years in the role due to work and municipal duties. Ken Fawcett, manager of the first eleven, is appointed secretary and described as a capable, energetic cricket enthusiast. Contact details given as 4 Gertrude St MW 9377.

Trustees Appointed for Stanley Taylor Appeal

A public meeting appointed provisional trustees Cr G Dobson Cr H B Dempster and Mr F E Hargreaves to manage the fund aiding Stanley Taylor the six year old boy who lost both legs in a railway accident at Sunshine. Appeal open until late January with written authorization required from the Shire President. Donations to date reach £626 11s. Latest notes: Stanley shown courage at the Children’s Hospital. Braybrook Social Club backs the drive hosting two house parties and a monster dance on December 1 at the Shire Hall with Claude Hill Jack Costello Frank McNamara and Dr Harry Demapeter organizing.

Council Adds Library Plan and Mechanical Sweeper Bid

Councillors approved including a municipal library in the year’s estimates amid debate over funding for a mechanical sweeper costing 3000 to 4000 pounds. Dr Barclay urged mechanisation due to labour shortages while Dr Parsons questioned suitability. Mrs Doak urged a unified municipal centre housing library and Baby Health facilities on one block.

Re-alignment of Riding Boundaries

Dr H Skinner told the Council on Monday that at the next meeting he would move adoption of the Shire Secretary report on boundary re alignment. The May tabled report proposes moving South Road Darnley Lily Ashley Sts area to River Riding from Central Riding and the Lily Street Hertford Road Ander son McIntyre Butler Darnley area back to Central. Western and Southern Ridings unchanged. The plan would keep voting strength unequal.

Sub-Division Rejected in St Albans Public Hearing

Braybrook Council on Monday refused to sanction the subdivision of a large area of land in Main Rd West St Albans into 414 building blocks. The decision cited the project as not in the public interest.
