The Maidstone story traces the 19th century style subdivision campaign tilting against a sprawling 26 by 80 foot allotment pattern. Local activists led by G E B Dobson pressed Braybrook and government planners for a full replanning costing near a million pounds, facing opposition and district ties to Footscray.
The Braybrook Shire Council promotes a Local Government Act Section 5% plan to acquire and reorganize Maidstone land for larger blocks and new streets. It purchased or options 300 blocks, plans four 52 by 104 foot parcels, abandons two streets, and lays out playgrounds with resale to builders to fund the project.
Hargreaves was given authority to proceed with the land purchase for the street project. Transfer of titles and other legal matters remain to be transacted and a brief delay may occur before construction begins, but officials report that all is well.
Twenty five ladies traveled by parlor coach to the Royal Park home where forty four elderly men receive care. The Sunshine group provided a musical afternoon with Mrs Barrie, Mrs Ellingsen and Mrs Terpell, distributing magazines and small parcels. A June 9 business meeting will elect officers. Miss Lambrick will speak on The Women of Spain on June 23.
A Maidstone resident voices concern over the retiring River Riding member facing no opposition. He urges a fresh representative to curb contractor neglect, piles of earth, and tin pyramids left by works, urging progress without delay.
