Local Health Inspector L. E. Thorpe, noted for strict duty, found his own horse among animals impounded at Albion. The incident ended with Thorpe paying five shillings for his mustang's delinquency as he led his horse and others to the Shire pound.
At a council meeting on Monday it was noted that plumpton coursing took place at Tottenham. The Braybrook Council's legal position on the matter was to be clarified.
At Braybrook Council the Shire Engineer reported April total building permits worth £56 937. Five homes valued at £23 420, four factory additions at £53 500, eleven garages and gas buildings at £217. 1938 total £125 000, 1937 £97 000. A building boom may make this year the best in ten years.
Beryl Clifton passed with honors in Musical Perception Grade 4 scoring 100 marks. Margery Harry gained honors in piano forte Grade 6. Margaret Vance achieved credit in pianoforte Grade 6. Teacher: Miss Elsa Haas.
The annual District Union conference of the W C T U will convene next Thursday afternoon May 25 at the Presbyterian hall in Sunshine. It covers the Altona Williamstown Seddon Yarraville districts and the Footscray West Footscray and Sunshine branches.
The Sunshine team will travel to Alphington on Saturday for a likely clash. Alphington has struggled recent seasons but is said to have improved this year under Fitzroy League coaching. Ladies of the All Aboard Club will host about 30 elderly men from Ward 15 Royal Park in St Mark's hall Anderson Road on May 25 with singing and other items and afternoon tea. Mrs Stuart the president calls for an early attendance for a brief business meeting. The club also thanks Mr Shuffrey and Mr Avery for assistance at last Thursday's Masonic hall dance.
The Shire President Dr J B Parsons and Mrs Parsons plan a ball at the Sunshine Town hall on Tuesday May 31. Ratepayers with invitations urged to reply promptly to finalize catering and other details. Debutantes and partners are rehearsing. the event is expected to rival past features. Emerson Bros Pty Ltd won the tender for furnishings of the new Council chamber at the Sunshine Town Hall at about £300. Constable J Witcher, now in the motor patrol, testified at the Sunshine court on Ballarat Road cases.
Stanley Bertram Gilbert of 61 Sturt Street Ballarat was fined £2 for dangerous driving at 6 15 pm on March 30 along Ballarat Road. Police evidence cited speeds around sixty mph amid Bacchus Marsh race day traffic. Others also fined £2 for similar offences including Leo O Brien J Edward O Brien Herbert Moran and John Naughton plus John Rudduck fined 20 for truck speed above 20 mph on March 8.
The Sunshine Baptist Parents' Committee will host an Australian tea in the Baptist hall on Ridley Street Wednesday next May 24 at 2.30 p.m. All ladies who care to attend will be made welcome.
