Farewell to Dr. Salmond as he leaves for Scotland

Brayhrank s oneiliars finished their meeting early on Monday with adequate time for a tea farewell. Mrs. 2 B Salmond departs for the United Kingdom by the Or cates voyage. The council presents a travelling rug and Mrs Beachley gives a bouquet to Mrs Salmond. Dr Salmond, in Australia twenty five years, returns to Scotland to visit three sisters and two brothers and will be absent five months.

Citizens' Charity Ball in Braybrook Shire Hall

The Shire President Dr. A Beachley and Mrs. Beachley organize the Citizens' Charity Ball at Shire Hall on Friday 26 May. An excellent orchestra, a leading performer, and a dancing exhibition by former Australian Modern Ballroom champions are planned. Tickets cost 10 shillings 6d and are available at the Shire Office until 16 May. Proceeds support the Sunshine and District Community Hospital Loan Redemption Fund.

Postal Changes At Sunshine And Melbourne Posts

Les Gash, after 11 years as senior postman at Sunshine, is transferred to a responsible position in Melbourne. Ted Willey, formerly at Simahine, succeeds Gash as senior postman. Gash is also noted as father in law of Footscray footballer Len McCankie.

Vandalism at East Sunshine School Hampers Building

The East Sunshine State School construction is seriously hampered by vandalism. Timber, fittings, and tools have been stolen or removed from the site. Police are notified and the contractor appeals to residents to help prevent further incidents and speed completion.

Autumn Show Highlights At Sunshine Horticultural Society

Heavy March rains reduced chrysanthemum displays at Sunshine Horticultural Society Autumn Show last Saturday yet exhibits were of good quality. Major prize went to Min BF Bennett for single chrysanthemums. Fawkner Medal awarded to best member exhibit. Local winners included Mrs Hindson Mrs Cook Mrs Powell and Miss Olive Powell. Annual meeting set for May 10 at 8 p.m. in Shire Hall to elect officers and committee.

Dr A E Shepherd continued his campaign in Kingsville last night and will speak again tonight at West Footscray Progress Hall.
