A fragmentary verse sketch features Sunshine and a comic council scene. It names Councillor Dempster and a “Gasper Junior” with satirical lines about a fire bell, a brigade, and a drained municipal mood. The piece hints at local politics and comic mischief in a small community.
The passenger liner Balranald crossing the Equator on March 25 welcomed Margaret Balranald Elliott, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Elliott from Paisley Scotland. Sunshine gains a first home for the family. Four hundred guests attended her sea christening conducted by Rev W Gardener Miller, with a large cake presented for the occasion.
John Patterson, a long time resident of Tooern Vale, died at Mrs Beaty of Sunshine after living there for over fifty years. He worked for Mrs Beaty for twenty years and was known for his yarns about the North of Ireland and times past. A humorist who claimed his daily laugh keeps the doctor away, he died aged 90 after a life free of sickness.
Sunshine and Footscray Juniors met on Saturday in a winter football clash watched by about six to seven hundred spectators. Footscray, with experienced players, dominated and taught the younger side a lesson as both teams showed signs of fatigue and needed more vigorous training. Captain T Reardon and vice captain J Searle led the local side, while Leray and the Footscray backs held the decisive defense.
