First School of Mothercraft opens hospital for babies
The first hospital for babies and craft training has opened in West Footscray at Barkly and Gordon streets. Funded by £5,600 donor J. T. Tweddle and site by Wootscray Council, the facility trains nurses and midwives, with dedicated wards, nurseries, baths, isolation and mothers’ cottages. Attendees included Lady Stradbroke. officials praised child welfare and state health policy while highlighting the care model.
