St Mark s Church of England Ball revived last night with 360 dancers. Vic Mathey s Orchestra backed the Beverley Waltz debutante set led by 14 young ladies and partners. Debutantes wore white knitted lace frocks and bouquets, with Shire President Dr A G Vennell and guests present.

Opposition to Home Help Scheme in Braybrook Council

Dr. R A Barrett argued the Home Help plan is inadequate for the Shire, predicting only one emergency house keeper could serve about 12 000 people and costs far above four working men’s wages. Others supported all or parts of the proposal, and a recommendation to full Council was carried for next Monday night.

Expenses to Councillors Authorized by Committee

Under the Local Government Act it is legitimate for municipalities to pay out of pocket expenses to councillors but this has not been the practice in the Hraybrook Council. At last Monday's Committee Meeting the Shire Secretary brought the oversight to the notice of the Council and authority was given to him to pay expenses in the future. Councillors can be reimbursed for expenses incurred while participating in official duties.
