School Yard Land Contention with Railways Erupts

Education Department sought land to enlarge a school yard while the Railways had already acquired it for prefabricated houses. Foundations for five houses began before the school committee was informed. Dr. Shepherd met with the Premier and Education Minister and asked that foundations be removed to add the land to the school ground. The Transport Minister says the land is held by the Railways Commissioners who can dispose of it only if surplus. At present the land is not surplus as England imported houses are pending.
