Debating Drainage Scheme for Soldiers Settlement
The municipal council weighed the pros and cons of a drainage plan for the soldiers settlement with Dr Alfred Lowe leading a motion. Opponents argued the burden should fall on benefiting ratepayers, noting a recent drainage tender of over £4,500 and urging a special rate. Only Lowe Barclay and McKay voted for the scheme. Lowe later signalled a motion on the topic at the next meeting.
