Day labor drainage works bid accepted after tender errors
Proposals for the drainage works on Chicago street were received from De Rowe and Wales with bids around £494 and £600. The engineer’s estimate was £466 10s 6d. The lowest bid exceeded the estimate. the council considered day labor as an option and the motion to pursue day labor was carried after debate with Dr Dobson and Mr Wales urging direct supervision and local employment.
