The Advocate proclaims a record weekly issue and current circulation as its largest ever. It notes the paper’s role in Sunshine’s progress is acknowledged by public bodies while hoping for continued growth and service to the community.
Turf selections by Kewpie for Williamstown races list Sea King Dubup Hite in Trial Hurdle and other events including Kerrena Three-Year-Old Handicap and Welter and Maiden Plate entries. Names such as Silver Bond Gay Heiress Barapie Jangler Epigram Dunloe Princess Pam, Gay Circle, Egotist Boongarry and Queen Esther appear among the contenders.
A deputation of over 30 residents urged the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works to apply to the Employment Council for water-supply funds for St Albans and Keilor. Dr W R Dempster led the case, proposing the Trust be disbanded and the area absorbed by the Board. the board’s water supply committee will consider the request and respond in due course.
Mr K Cunningham head teacher at St Al bans school faces two daughters' weddings. Miss Sylvie D Cunningham of the Postal department Horsham marries Mr Harry Ryan former Sunshine resident at Horsham. Miss Ivy J Cunningham wed Mr Edgar W Kutcher at Sunshine Methodist Church Wednesday at 7 pm.
At the Sunshine branch meeting of the Australian Labour Party a resolution condemns Braybrookshire council for enforcing By law 35 clause h which restricts liquor consumption on council property without written consent. The vote was unanimous and criticizes perceived attacks on Sunshine citizens.
An explosion at the Deer Park rubbish dump disrupted Sunshine yesterday afternoon. Loud blast rattled windows, heard as far as Yarraville. No injuries reported though several nearby windows broke and minor damage occurred to Mr Johnson’s home about 300 yards away.
St Albans School lists pupils who earned merit certificates including Edward Crosbie Norman Goddard Douglas Webb Geoffrey H Cole and Joan Winter Pending Merle Baudinete noted as pending.
On November 16, Checker C A Smith of the Railways department found Peter Mackie of Windsor traveling without a valid ticket on a Sunshine Tottenham train. He was located, brought to Sunshine court, and fined 10 shillings with 7 shillings 6 pence in costs after giving a false address.
The Shire President sends Christmas and New Year wishes to Braybrook residents. He notes declining unemployment, steady industrial and residential growth, and hopes the progress continues. He mentions infantile paralysis concerns but optimism for festive celebrations and civic interest in municipal questions.
A solemn service will be held at the Presbyterian Church in St Albans on Sunday afternoon to ordain and induct the Elders elect. The Kirk Session and choir from Sunshine Creek Presbyterian Church will assist. The elders elect are Messrs A. G. Storie and A. C. Winter.
