Robinson Approved as Post Office Name

The council proposed naming the new post office Robinson after H Robinson city engineer of 27 years. High water and drainage issues in Maribyrnong and Maidstone prompted calls for council action withFootscray council to confer on drainage improvements. Residents reported four foot deep floods in Midlatone area and plan for street and drainage schemes was set to be prioritized.

New Bank Manager Ex Navy Man Named

Mr A KE Bolt is the new bank manager and ex Navy officer who served six years in the war as a lieutenant commander. He captains the Farnington Country Golf Club team, is a Rotarian, and a member of the Army and Navy Club. He is married with two children, one a nurse.

Gallant Rescue of a Small Boy at Kororok Creek

Dr N Ainsworth told Sunshine Council on Monday of a boy who fell from a footbridge into flood waters at Kororok Creek last Friday. Francis Uvardi of Footscray, council employee, dived in risking his life to save the child. The council commended him and will report the incident to the Royal Humane Society.

Menace to Health at Graham Street tip

A petition from ratepayers described a dangerous rubbish tip near Graham Street and Benjamin Street. Sunshine Council debated procedure, then Dr N Green moved action to stop indiscriminate tipping and pursue prosecutions where drains were detected. The town clerk was told to consider employing a part time tip police. Health Inspector Mr A Little reported a notice to abate nuisances had been served on property owners.

Move to rezone industrial areas for homes deferred

Sunshine Council postponed a plan to rezone multiple industrial zones in Maribyrnong for residential use on Monday. The vote, cast by Mayor Dr J Cantley, followed a drive-in theatre dispute. The site even eyed for a second drive-in was among those referred to the engineer and town clerk for a report.

Plan for Two Parking Areas Near Station

Council favors two parking area sites near the station with plans to prepare a layout for the rear of the service station opposite the town hall and to approach the railways about land for a second site east of the station. The first defendant Neil Dudley McFadyen a transport driver was arrested after a semi trailer struck the railing of an overpass on St Albans Road at 11 pm He admitted driving the truck stating he had travelled from Adelaide to Melbourne and after visiting friends at St Albans consumed four bottles of beer The defence argued retrograde amnesia while the Beach bench dismissed the case after finding police tests insufficient to prove alcohol influence

Pleads Guilty in Second Case On Anderson Road

Edward Haig of Wright Street Sunshine pleaded guilty after Const. G. Walker found him asleep at the wheel near a car strike on Anderson Road. He tried to pick up keys and miscounted change while his breath strongly smelled of alcohol. The charge of being drunk in charge of a vehicle was withdrawn.

Victoria's top sportsmen join a charity cricket and football event at Selwyn Park on Sunday in aid of the McLean family.
