Who Runs the Council in debate over five riding split

Dr. Dobson questions council control after a letter from Maribyrnong A L P requesting division into five ridings. Braybrook Adopts Weekly Council Meetings

Braybrook Council voted to hold weekly meetings and eliminate regular committee meetings aside from special committees. Dr G E Dobson said the change would lessen staff workload, while Dr Parsons failed to restore the previous system of councilwide committee sittings under different chairmen.

Unlicensed Driver Fined

George Watson of 4 Pagingtin Street St. Kilda was charged at Sunshine Court on Friday with driving without a license. He pleaded guilty saying he had overlooked that his vehicle had an expired license and was fined.

Generous: Police Offer Second Chance In Court

Leslie Bailey appeared in Sunshine Court on a drunk and disorderly charge while already on a twelve month good behaviour bond stating he must avoid hotels. If convicted he faced twelve months imprisonment. police urged adjournment to give him another chance with a warning of serious consequences for further offenses.

Truth in Letters Sparks Debate in Braybrook Council

Dr R Barrett challenged councillors to tell the truth when writing to papers, referring to a letter by Dr Dobson about a maidstone house structure. The inspector’s April report claimed no work on dismantling the structure, which had been erected without a permit.

Discharged Employee Fined For Damaging Company Truck

Dudley William King of Dawson Street Sunshine was charged with wilful damage to his employer Sunshine Cabinet Works Pty. Ltd. He was dismissed for inefficiency and slackness and broke the truck headlights and mudguards with a hammer. He pleaded guilty and was fined five pounds plus seven pounds damages. The bench chairman urged better temperance in future.

Braybrook Council Grants £100 to Benevolent Society

At the council meeting the Braybrook Council approved a £100 grant to the local Benevolent Society to support its charitable work amid rising post war prosperity. The sum had always been available but was not previously needed.

Private interests after reserve sale and lease inquiry

Applications have been made by a private individual for the sale and by LCI ANZ Ltd for the lease of a 34 acre undeveloped reserve adjoining Fitzgeralds Road and Koror Creek in Deer Park. The Shire Council has deferred decision pending investigation into potential public interest injury. LCI ANZ Ltd has also inquired about closing and selling an unused road running west from Fitzgeralds Road. This matter will also be the subject of an inquiry.

Man Challenges Constable to Fight in Hampshire Road

Robert ONeill of the Railway Settlement Sunshine challenged a plainclothes constable to fight after questioning actions in a dispute April 1. Constable Miller testified at Sunshine Court that ONeill used vile language during the escort to the lock-up. ONeill pleaded guilty to offensive behavior and indecent language, given £5 fine or 14 days, and £2 or seven days on the other count.

Inferior Roof Tiles Being Used in Local Buildings

Braybrook councillors ordered the building inspector to scrutinize roofing tiles in use after reports of several inferior tiles. The matter has been referred to the Shire Solicitors and tests by a laboratory are suggested to verify tile quality.

Braybrook Council on Monday approved Railways Dept plan to requisition land north of Devonshire Road known as Moons Pad. The land held for a future swimming pool is affected but the council will obtain a larger better shaped block with enough land for the pool.

Dr. Shepherd MLA for Sunshine retires and faces opposition from Mrs. M James, LC P endorsed candidate and Malvern widow. Autumn Flower Show Passes In Sunshine Heereens Society

The annual Autumn Flower Show of Sunshine Heereens Soci. will be held Saturday April 29 at Shire Hall. Open to the public from 4 pm with official opening by the Shire President at 7 pm. Entries close Friday April 28 at 6 pm to Mr Harold Gray. Harvester Gardens will display chrysanthemums and attract many visitors.
