Jack Johnson Plans New Zealand Boxing Tour

Australian heavyweight champion Jack Johnson, owner of a milk-bar in Monash Street Sun shine, left yesterday for Sydney and will sail for New Zealand today to box four bouts with a £500 purse each. Afterward he may travel to South Africa for further fights.

Albion Progress Association seeks council take over hall assets

A deputation from the Albion Progress Association asked Jaybrook Council to assume the association's building fund assets including land and cash and to erect a public hall. Assets exceed £460 with land valued at £200, but war delays have slowed plans. The council will decide after Public Works Committee meets next Monday.

Appointment of Curator Deferred by Braybrook Council

A L P Branch Protest Over Shire President Ruling

Braybrook Council received a letter from the A L P Branch secretary G R Crick protesting Dr A G Pennell Shire President. The letter claims his ruling to deny discussion on referring a matter to a Council committee was unconstitutional and undemocratic and that a point of order was misused. Pennell replies he acted within his prerogative and viewed outside interference as inappropriate.

Food for Britain Appeal mobilizes Braybrook district

The Shire President guides a Food for Britain drive with sunlight district canvassing planned for Sunshine tomorrow. Trucks and scouts will collect clothing and tinned foods while residents prepare donations. Kirjen Speedway in Maribyrnong provides entertaiment next Saturday. Public meetings are set for Maidstone Maribyrnong and Deer Park next week to boost the appeal.

Shire Prosecutes in Traffic Offence Conviction Won

The Braybrook Shire through President Cr A Cl Pennell prosecuted Henry Tainton in Sunshine Court on a February 1 incident. Dr Pennell testified he rode a meteor vehicle proceeding west at 7.45 am when a motor truck passed at 10 mph and he followed into Mampstead Rd. The case resulted in a conviction for the defendant.

Driver Cited For Excessive Speed At Braybrook Factory

A motorist accused of speeds well above 400 mph? no 64 mph was stopped at a Braybrook factory corner of Melon Street and Balla rate. The defendant explained he did not realise the speed. Lawrence Alexander Allison corroborated Dr Pennell's evidence. The Motor Car Act gave the Shire authority to prosecute. A fine of £8 with costs was imposed.

Attempt at Cheap Publicity in Braybrook Council Debate

Braybrook Council discussed a notice of motion by Dr Dobson opposing a building surveyor appointment. The council had previously referred the matter to the Public Works Committee and defeated the motion. Dr Dobson argued timely supervision of buildings is vital amid active local construction. others questioned presenting the issue before full facts were known.
