The Advocate announces its next issue will be published on Friday April 26. Contributors are asked to submit copy to The Advocate Office by Wednesday morning April 24 due to the Anzac Day holiday on April 25.
Victor Cochrane of McDonald Street Sunshine faced John Charles McQueen over an assault with damages claimed. Evidence showed a premeditated attack requiring doctor treatment and prior threats. Justice warned Cochrane to keep his hands to himself or face severe action with a 1 shilling 6 pence fine, 10 s 6 d damages, and 6 d costs.
A large deputation urged the Melbourne and Metropolitan Board of Works to fund and support a water scheme for Keilor and St Albans. Board officials cited no funds this year, with £27,000 estimated for the project and £7,000 total for trust costs.
Mr J B Salmond the renowned poultry breeder and judge will leave tomorrow with birds for exhibition at the Royal Sydney Show. Ian Sutherland sustained a broken collarbone at school in an accident. A Sunshine carter tipped rabbits into Sandringham quarry. the horse backed and fell forty feet but only minor scratches were suffered. A Nobels factory worker fell about thirty feet while working on steel. he was hospitalized and progressing satisfactorily. The Progress Association met with a large attendance and is seeking land to build a tennis court at Deer Park.
Sunshine court hears cases of bread and wood misweighing. Perest Pork and WAMCoanged faced fines for overweight loaves and underweight total baked bread. Oakes said scales were faulty and later corrected. Windsor trader E Barnes fined for selling undermeasured wood with missing docket and excess volume.
Local notice clarifies that Mr W L Johnson remains at Wellman's Hampshire Road surgery and continues to be available for consultations as in the past. Before the Sun shine Court of Petty Sessions, honorary district magistrates met and unanimously appointed W. J. Andrew as chairman. The court, lacking a regular chair since Dr G. W. Pennell’s death, convened with a full bench including Dr H Skewes and others.
The death of Mr James Babb aged 79 occurred at his son’s home on Howard Street Maidstone after two years of illness and six months bedridden. Born in Braybrook township to Jersey parents, he was among the shire’s oldest ratepayers and an avid sportsman. He worked for Braybrook Shire Council for about 37 years. his son Alan Babb is a shire foreman. His wife predeceased him by 12 years and a grown family survives.
