Carmichaels Area High School Holds 1968 Commencement
The Carmichaels Area High School held its Baccalaureate and Commencement for 94 seniors on Sunday May 12. Rev Robert Whadlery led invocations, musical selections were performed by the band, and John O Miller Jr gave the commencement address titled Some Reflections on Life. Diplomas were presented by Edward M Zalar with remarks by Glenn L Fike and Gerald E Marcinak. The list of graduates includes Paul Antonini John Areford Betty Bacon Deborah Baily Paul Bandish Deborah Barnhart Karen Blackburn Teresa Boggio John Burnette and many others.

Sy High School names Frank J. Gavlak Jr with top honors and perfect four year average and John E. Bussoletti as Salutationian for the class. Gavlak plans electronic engineering at Penn State and held NHS VP plus lead in I Remember Mama. Bussoletti, 18, takes 3.91 GPA and attends Princeton University with NHS president and JCL member roles.

Coast Guard honor for James and Mitchell Harding at sea
Mr and Mrs David Harding of Hobrows Pa received a letter praising their sons James and Mitchell Harding for bravery during a U S Coast Guard escort mission. The sailors helped extinguish fires and secure the cargo on the Liberian merchant vessel SS Green Mountain state near Midway Island. Mitchell Harding, a 1961 Mapletown High School graduate, enlisted in 1962 and is married to Alban Bragoli of Naples Italy.

Airport Radioman Is Asked To Maintain Continuous Radio
Dr Roy Springer of Waynesburg urged Greene County commissioners last week to keep the airport radio manned during peak times at Greene County Airport. He said lack of radio service to relay ground data caused hazardous conditions and several near accidents. The county sought Washington Greene Community Action Corp help to train personnel to monitor the radio noon to 8 pm seven days a week.
