U S Gift of Holstein Bull at Portuguese Agricultural Fair
The United States presents Portugal with an 11 month old 1000-pound Holstein calf at Santarem’s fifth annual Agricultural Fair. The gift from the Illinois Agricultural Association was accepted by Dr Domingos Rosado Vitoria Pires Secretary of State for Agriculture. Dr Ford M Milam US Agricultural Attache introduced the ceremony. The association aims to aid Portugal’s dairy output and strengthen US Portugal friendship.

WVU Holstein Sets Record Milks 22,250 Lbs in 305 Days
West Virginia University Morgantown owns Ideal 5115662, a seven year old registered Holstein cow, that produced 22,250 pounds of milk and 796 pounds of butterfat in 305 days. The record exceeds the national average dairy output of 8,518 pounds of milk with 315 pounds of butterfat per year.

Study Tour of Europe Planned for Vocational Agriculture Leaders
W. H. Wayman and Mrs Wayman from Charleston will join a three week nationally sponsored Study Tour of Europe in June. The tour will cover England Holland Denmark East and West Germany with visits to London Amsterdam The Hague Copenhagen Bonn and Berlin. The trip is sponsored by Future Farmers of America and the International Agricultural Exchange Association. Molasses as a feed additive improves roughage intake and reduces waste increasing its value relative to grain when diluted with water and sprinkled on hay.

The West Virginia Agriculture Experiment Station in Morgantown received the Constructive Breeder Award from the Ayrshire Breeders Association at the 93rd annual banquet in Albany New York. The herd averaged 12455 pounds of milk and 506 pounds of butterfat on a strict twice daily milking schedule for 305 days.
