In Assen Netherlands two Moluccan mediators sat for six hours with gunmen aboard a hijacked train where about 54 hostages have been held for 13 days. No date for further talks was set. Hostages include a 23 year old pregnant woman given a private compartment.
President Carter plans a tax reform package likely preserving home mortgage deductions, as Treasury Secretary Blumenthal notes after a White House meeting with Carter, Mondale, Lance, and advisers. Byrd doubts quick action this year while Blumenthal signals possible early proposal, with no formal decisions yet.
