Repairs to Take 10 Years for Cabin Creek Watershed Plan
A draft environmental study from the U S Army Corps outlines a ten year, ten million dollar effort to repair coal mining damage along Cabin Creek in southern West Virginia. It covers erosion control, high wall stabilization, revegetation, and waste treatment with a pilot waste facility and water quality improvements. The plan also foresees 10.5 miles of channel rehab, public hunting land, mine parks, and building removals to reduce hazards and improve socio economic conditions for local residents.
